Boxer Lost!

I have to tell you about one of the scariest times with our boxers. Boxers are huge people dogs as the Free Boxer Reports (link below), tell you. They also are afraid of storms like most dogs. When Minnie was a puppy our first boxer Roxi was still living but had bladder cancer. We knew it would be only about 6 months that we would still have her but we were monitoring her comfort level until she was showing signs of weight loss etc. We left the dogs together in our backyard one evening as we went out and a big Arizona storm rolled in quickly. We went home to check on them but the fierce winds had unlodged our gate. Both our sweet boxers were gone! We were just sick. We spent hours in the pounding rain that night looking for them. Roxi was protective of Minnie and we hoped they would stay together. To make a long story short, it took us three days of total searching, visiting humane societies, shelters, and websites before we finally found them. We were told to go back to the shelters several times because some people would keep them and return them days later. On our third day at the end of another tearful look through the shelter with no results we asked an employee one more time and he said I think two boxers came in together just a few minutes ago. He led us to the aisle and we wer so overjoyed and relieved to find them. They stayed together the whole 3 days! We were so fortunate we showed up at the right time because tags had fallen off of Minnie and Roxi had her tags taken off by my daughter because they were loud jingling when she was trying to sleep. ALWAYS KEEP YOUR COLLARS AND TAGS ON YOUR DOGS AT ALL TIMES! This was a hard lesson we had to learn. Roxi contacted Kennel Cough from her adventure and it brought us to the sad time to put her to sleep. We knew we were going to have to put her to sleep soon but we wanted her with us and not out lost somewhere. You dogs are family, make a small investment and make sure they have an ID tag. Boxers are "runners" and can get away quickly.
