Does this happen to you? Whenever you enjoy eating a slice of fresh bread, you can't help but thinking about the bread calories? But there are so many types of bread, so how can you really tell if there are too many bread calories in what you eat?

No worries. We'll go over some simple figures and guidelines that will help you know all you need about bread calories.

White Bread Calories

A slice of typical white bread (25gr, 1oz) has between 65 to 70 bread calories. Most of these calories come from carbs - at least 50 calories. The rest come from fat and protein.

Whole Wheat Bread Calories

The nutrition value of whole wheat breads (including the bread calories) is considered superior to the white bread. A slice of a typical whole wheat bread has only a few calories less than white bread: between 60 and 65 calories.

But the real "treat" is that whole wheat bread calories come from a lot more dietary fiber and protein than white bread (and a bit more fat).

Rye Bread Calories

The rye bread calories are more similar to white bread with around 70 calories for a slice. But it does have more dietary fiber than white bread. It is also usually darker and denser.

French, Vienna and Sourdough Bread Calories

These breads that use wild yeast have typically a bit more than 70 calories per slice. They do have a destinctive tangy or sour taste which makes them special.
