THE END

The death is announced of Michael Jackson. May his soul rest in peace.

.

THE BEGINNING

Starting as early as 1966, Jackie, Jermaine, Tito, Marlon and Michael formed a musical band called the Jackson Five. The brand of music varied from rhythm and blues, soul, pop, and in the later stages evolved to disco.

They went on to the seventies and eventually Michael Jackson started focusing on a solo career. "Ben" was the title of one of his solo tracks and was a tribute he paid to his pet mouse. Cool! Certainly not a heart-breaker of a chart topper, but it was good enough a track to be given a spin on most international radio stations.

Almost running on a parallel track were the Osmunds. The cheerful Osmunds recorded many interesting tracks at that time. A track titled "Puppy Love" recorded by Donny Osmund was the focus of many a disk jockey on our radio stations. Frequently comparing it with Michael Jackson's "Ben," whenever one of those tracks were played on the air, we were certain the other would follow.

Then something inevitable happened. Michael Jackson's voice cracked. Too bad! He lost that childish voice. That childish voice which launched "Ben" was no more. What was in store for him?

Well, he was already established and recognised as a musician. So he continued as a solo artist. Gradually reached superstar status collecting millions of fans from all the countries in the world.

.

.

IN BETWEEN

The solo career of Michael Jackson went on and on and on until the early hours of the morning of the 25th of June 2009.

His solo career was colorful, fruitful, tearful, and had everything that life could offer anyone who would dare to participate in the game. Fame, shame, and acclaim were also part of the package.

Unfortunately the period of time up to his death was riddled with many unusual episodes. In the initial stages of his stardom, he was often seen wearing one white glove, which became a symbol of him at that time. Not really interested in establishing a brand of this sort, he kept on moving. His constant desire to keep altering his appearance until it reached a kind of perfection which only he would have been able to define, although he never did, kept him constantly in touch with plastic surgeons.

His hypochondria was another issue which his doctors found most lucrative. The sane questioned his sanity. Journalists as usual were constantly on the look out for a mere spark to light a bonfire.

Sleeping in an oxygen tent, the excessive demonstration of vanity, being on the verge of filing bankruptcy, and a whole list of unusual events and episodes make him far ... very far from being envied.

.

.

THE VIDEO KILLED MANY

Michael Jackson could dance. He really could. It was the time when the 45 rpm vinyl record was almost pronounced dead. Video was getting incorporated into music. The very video that slaughtered many radio stars mercilessly.

The timing could not have been better. The fact that he could dance very well remained true. Well enough to be recognized and admired by thousands, and by millions. He also sang. Videos of Michael performing sold millions and millions. His dancing was hailed by many as out of this world. He continued to sing. However he was not really referred to as a singer or a vocalist.

THE DANCER ON VIDEO

More often the word musician and entertainer was used. He still continued to sing. He was a performer. He was not competing. Just performing. His energetic dancing continued to gain him fans.

Michael Jackson gained fame for his ability to dance. I guess the music that he generated was only secondary. His style of entertainment appealed to many who were teenagers in the eighties and nineties.

THE COMPARISION

Touring the world, spreading his unique brand of entertainment, whatever part of the world he had visited, he had been received with much frenzy and enthusiasm by his countless number of fans.

Unfortunate in many ways, he was somewhat fortunate in some.

Dynamic on stage, creating megatons of energy to simply blast all his shortcomings to smithereens ... considered to be generous by many ... observed to be polite by all ... never having been reported for arrogance, Michael Jackson lived ... and died.

His snowballing popularity eventually reached such a point which even qualified him to be compared with ELVIS PRESLEY. May the soul of ELVIS PRESLEY rest in peace.

Thanks for this Hub, QS.

He was very interesting and talended musician and enterteinar.

From other point of view, I was amazed with his denial of himself through the all plastic surgery and skin whitening...From very good looking guy he become paradoxal creature with strange looking, ugly face....From healthy young men, full of energy, he became very ill, with destroyed immune system, skin cancer...and he finally died because of that self-denial. From very rich person he became actually poor.

His self-destruction was stronger then his qualities, what is sad.

I wish that his soul finds joy and happiness in his next life.

Thank you quicksand for these interesting notes on Michael Jackson.  What a life!  He gave so much of himself to us.  Like Tatjana said, self-destruction got the best of him.  So very sad!

God Bless his family and especially his children.

Thanks for the memories and may you Rest in Peace, Michael...

Tanja, Thanks a lot for commenting here. I attribute his eccentric behavior to the fact that he had undergone a lot of injustice as a kid. I don't think he is fully to blame.

I appreciate your visit. :)

Dottie, thanks for checking out my essay. It's a real pity that he chose the self destruction button. :)

Shiba, He certainly danced very well, although you did not make any reference to it! :)

Michael was a marvelous talent that will be missed. I watched him grow from a small boy into a dynamic performer. He was a generous and loving individual. Very good article and informative links...Thanks for sharing.

There will never be another one like Michael Jackson; he has one of the saddest stories I've ever heard. His brothers and Dad made fun of him but you know what, he was the most attractive one out of all of them so they must have been jealous of him! I blame his family for a lot of the bad that occurred in his life. I am from the 70's era and Michael will be loved and missed forever!

Karen Johnson, thanks for your visit and for voicing your opinion. Although I was never a Michael Jackson fan, I had a lot of sympathy for him over the years as I was certain that his eccentric behavior and continually being dissatisfied with his looks was attributive to his father being totally unjust with him in the formative stages. The fault was elsewhere.

Thanks for sharing, nice hub. It's sad that he's gone. Michael Jackson plays (played) a huge part in my memories from the 80's. MJ always appeared shy and humble in interviews. I know he had a not so good childhood, but he still managed to shine on stage, and be more than successful. A genius! I guess that must have been his escape, his moments on stage. He will always be missed!

You're right. Michael Jackson gained fame and shame. And while he was successful, he was also in debt according to some news/blogs that I've read about him.

Michael Jackson was truly the best, and I even think his eccentricities may have ironically contributed to his success as an entertainer. Every element of his formative years, both good and bad (I believe we all have em) contributed in some way to the eventual outcome. I also remember Michael crediting his father for the release of his creative genius. That being said, his color transformation was just a pointer to his reasoning that a man's color is only a small part of his true identity. The greater essence lies within and lives forever. People are so complacent concerning changing hair texture and style, and other forms of changes (e.g. circumcision, piercing etc) but somehow the color change seems to attract the greatest judgment of self-esteem. No! Michael must have viewed color as just another piece of adornment that could be changed at will. Very different from the way most of the world has come to view color (as being the very fabric of identity). I think until we start to view color like Michael did, we would always have racial vice. (Please feel free to disagree)

I love Michael Jackson, he was a great talent, sadly the people around him misused him and made his life difficult. There are none like him.

Hello Seagull, I know you like his music and his style of presenting. Of course he had millions of fans all over the world. It is reported that he was a nice guy and had never been arrogant towards anyone. Pity that all those around him deceived him, and he couldn't keep proper track of his finances. Thanks for your comment. :)

What to say??? he is the greatest of all.... He was surrouded by people who pretended to be interested in him when they only saw his money... I'm sad at thinking that he was sad, lonely and in bad health... If only I could have done something for him....

Hope his "great" doctor will be sentenced! He is a killer!

Greetings Volcane,

It certainly is sad that he was lonely and not in good health. The worse part is that even the members of his own family were not too supportive.

Thanks for the remarks. Cheers!
