The estranged couple spent five hours at the Los Angeles offices of the "Toxic" star's lawyer Laura Wasser along with Federline's attorney Mark Vincent Kaplan.

Michael Sands, spokesman for Federline's lawyer, says, "The parties signed a global settlement on all issues of their marriage and the custody of the children."

The terms of the agreement were not revealed, but a Los Angeles judge still has to approve the documents.

Spears, 25, filed for divorce on Nov. 7--just two months after giving birth to their youngest child Jayden James--citing "irreconcilable differences."

In the divorce papers, Spears was seeking legal and physical custody of Jayden James and Sean Preston, 18 months, while former dancer Federline, 29, also asked for custody of the children, as well as requesting spousal support.

The couple wed in October 2004 after a whirlwind six-month romance.

The divorce agreement comes nine days after Spears checked out of Promises Rehab Center in Malibu, California, for a month-long treatment for unspecified problems.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Britney Spears has completed a month in rehab and left a luxury Malibu facility with a plea for privacy while she rebuilds her life with her two young children.

Spears' manager Larry Rudolph said in a statement that the pop singer was released on Tuesday by the Promises Malibu Treatment Center "after successfully completing their program."

"We ask that the media respects her privacy as well as those of her family and friends at this time," the statement said.

Spears, 25, checked into Promises on February 21 after shaving her own head following weeks of erratic public behavior that coincided with an escalating divorce battle.

The specific treatment Spears was seeking was not made clear but the former teen idol was photographed on several occasions making her way to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings outside the facility during her stay there.

Some celebrity watchers speculated that she may have been battling post natal depression after the birth in September 2006 of her second baby in 12 months.

The minimum stay for most centers is 30 days but Promises founder Richard Rogg has said the usual stay at his facility is about 45 days. Country star Keith Urban recently spent three months at the Betty Ford Center for alcohol abuse.

Promises, a celebrity magnet nestled in the mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, offers a tough-love philosophy that requires patients to perform menial chores in a highly pampered setting.

In the week leading up to her arrival at Promises, Spears had spent less than a day at guitarist Eric Clapton's Crossroads rehab center in Antigua.

She then returned to Los Angeles, where she tearfully shaved her head in a beauty salon, and then checked in and swiftly out of Promises before deciding to stay there.

Spears filed for divorce from second husband Kevin Federline in November after two years of marriage and two children. She was photographed without panties while hitting the nightclub circuit.

Celebrity Web site TMZ.com reported that Federline and Spears have now agreed to share custody of their sons while they finalize their divorce. Other celebrity Web sites said Federline and the boys had visited Spears several times while she was at Promises.

Her recording career, meanwhile, is dormant. The singer who shot to fame as a teenager in 1999 and has sold an estimated 70 million records, released her last album of new material, "In the Zone," in 2003.

The troubled pop star has hooked up a musician she met in AA, and plans to move in with him once she's out of rehab, according to the upcoming National Enquirer.

Spears, 25, has fallen for Jason Filyaw, the 33-year-old lead guitarist of the rock band Riva, reports the tab.

"Britney adores Jason," a friend of Jackson's told the Enquirer. "He's been a tower of strength for her at the lowest point in her life. She's convinced Jason can help her through rehab because as an alcoholic, he's been through the same thing."

Spears emails and phones Filyaw constantly, according to the report, and the two have pet names for one another: he calls her Sugar, Kitten and My Lady; she calls him Mr. Secret Underground Guy and J-Sun.

Filyaw, when contacted by the Enquirer, said, "I have nothing to say about this."

The family of Britney Spears are worried that the singer won't make it through a full month in rehab.

Britney is rumoured to have scared staff at Promises Treatment Center in Malibu by running through the facility claiming she's the Antichrist and trying to hang herself with a bed sheet from a light-fitting - and she's worrying her family too.

Britney's cousin Alli has all but moved into the clinic to help keep an eye on her but the family still don't think it'll be enough to keep Britney on track. A source told the magazine: "They hope that Britney will stay at Promises for a month, but they're nervous she might not last that long."

Meanwhile estranged husband Kevin Federline spent the weekend in Las Vegas but onlookers report that he is greatly reformed from his previous partying ways. A source told People magazine that Kevin arrived at Revolution in the The Mirage Hotel & Casino for a scheduled appearance but he didn't party too hard, only staying for three and a half hours.

An onlooker said: "Kevin was really low key. You could definitely tell he was on his best behavior. He was having a good time, but wasn't the wild, crazy Kevin who used to come to Vegas."

A source close to Kevin added that Britney's troubles have forced him to grow up quickly and take responsibility for their two sons: "He wakes up with a purpose each morning and has enjoyed his family being around him."
