I was going to be writing on celebrity pregnancy anyhow, seeing as it seems to be the "in" thing to have children these days. I guess we can officially wave goodbye to the adoption craze as more and more Hollywood women opt for natural insemination as their way to procreate and make the front page of the tabloids. But I'm already way off track. Jamie Lynn Spears blew all those writing plans out of the water when she announced to OK! Magazine that she was over three months pregnant, and at the tender age of 16.

This, is not good news. Her mother (the inimitable Lynn Spears) spoke out saying how very shocked she was that this has happened to her baby. She is quoted as saying: "I didn't believe it because Jamie Lynn's always been so conscientious. She's never late for her curfew. I was in shock. I mean, this is my 16-year-old baby."

Of course, when you learn that Lynn also gave permission for her 16 year old baby to shack up with her 19 year old boyfriend, things start to make a little more sense in the "oh my god, how did this happen" stakes, and also in the "Lynn Spears, you money grubbing, child pimping nasty piece of work" stakes.

Think pimping is a bit of a harsh word? Perhaps, but then again, after Lynn had confirmed the pregnancy and taken Jamie Lynn to the doctor, one of the next trips was to OK! Magazine to work out a one million dollar deal with them in return for Jamie Lynn's pregnancy story, and pictures of the baby when it is born. You read that right, the newest addition to the Spears clan, although just a three month old fetus, has already contributed a million dollars to the Spears coffers.

That's part of the nastiness. The other part was noticeable earlier in this piece when I mentioned the ages of the prospective parents. 16, and 19. In a country where the age of consent is 18 years old, this is a case of statutory rape, plain and simple. Want to bet that the boy in question isn't prosecuted?

Even though the boy in question clearly broke the law, the real criminal here is probably Lynn Spears. With one daughter already spiraling out of control, she decided to let her teenager shack up with her boyfriend and concentrate on writing a parenting book instead. Yes, that's right, until the story of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy broke, Lynn Spears had a deal with a publisher to produce a parenting book.

That book is now on hold indefinitely.
