Introducing Bruce Lee's Martial Art
Bruce Lee is one of the greatest ever martial arts movie stars, and some would say the greatest ever. Her was famed for his speed and skill as a martial artist as well as for his acting.
At the beginning of his career Bruce studied a form of kung fu called Wing Chun, which is best known for its close range fighting and the use of 'bridging' to control an opponents limbs. But although he always maintained that this was a very effective style, it wasn't good enough for the master of kung fu. So based on his earler studies, and his own philosophy, skill and experience he went on to create his own kung fu martial art called Jeet Kune Do, often abbreviated to JKD. Jeet Kune Do is most notable for it's philosophy rather than any individual techniques, and is known as a system rather than a style. This is because Bruce Lee taught that it should always be moving onwards, adapted to the modern world and evolving. JKD is more of a method for learning martial arts than a martial art in the traditional sense with a fixed set of techniques. Although it does obviously have its own techniques these are constantly changing and being developed further, and many people who study JKD also incorporate elements of other martial arts into their training and develop their own personal style of fighting in the same way the Bruce Lee did.
Alongside Wing Chun Jeet Kune Do is one of the most famous and popularly practiced forms of kung fu today, and is a highly effective martial art for self defense, as well as a powerful system for personal development in general.

Good hub. I think it is important as well to understand that Sigung Lee was adamant in his resistance to "style" per se, as it could serve to inhibit complete expression in combat.
He said in an interview once, "Remember that Jeet Kune Do is merely a name used, a mirror in which to see "ourselves". . . Jeet Kune Do is not an organized institution that one can be a member of. Either you understand or you don't, and that is that."
While Jeet Kune Do could be referred to as a "style", the definition and interpretation of just what "style" is and means in martial arts and combat in general is crucial to keep in mind.
