Bruce springsteen, born september 23, 1949 in freehold, new jersey, an american rockmusician who got his big break with the album "born to run" from 1975, and ever since he has had a speciel status in american rockmusic, with a big and loyal fan crowd

At the age of sixteen, bruce became member of a band for the first time,"the castiles", and in the following years, he helped with making several bands, who achieved local succes, in new jersey and richmond, virginia. First in the year of 1972, he was discovered, by the CBS talentscout, john hammond, the same man who discovered bob dylan, and he got his recordcontract. John hammond thougt he had made a contract with a folksinger, but bruce springsteen insisted on having his "E street band" with him on the recordings of his first album "Greetings From Asbury Park NJ" from 1973. This album and the next "The wild, the innocent & the E street shuffle", became commercial flops, but because of good reviews he was´nt dumbed by the recordcompany.

During springsteens long tour in 1974, he meets the rolling stone journalist, jon landau, who wrote that the name of rock`n`rolls future was bruce springsteen, and a few years later became springsteens manager, and still is.

His third album was a win or loose situation, and fortunately, that third album "Born to run " 1975, became the big break that he had hoped for, and after a couple of years he began to work on his next album "Darkness on the edge of town" 1978.

Over the following six years springsteens popularity increased with the publishing of "The river" from 1980 and "Born in the USA" from 1984.

In between he had time to publish the acustic and socialrealistic album, "Nebraska" 1982, wich was recorded by springsteen alone, in his bedroom on a fourtrack taperecorder. The Nebraska album is considered by many fans to be some of his best work, and a lot of the songs from it, like, "Atlantic city", "Mansion on the hill", and the titlesong, is still to this day part of his liverepetoire.

Born in the USA, became breaktrough, as a superstar, worldwide, and in two years, this album was sold in eighteen million copyies, and his worldtour, made him one of the eighties biggest liveartists. Bruce springsteens superstar status, became, if possible, even more solid, when he in 1985, with Bob dylan, Michael jackson, and Tina turner, made the supportsingle "We are the world",

At the end of the eighties, and beginning of the nineties, bruce turned down the heat a little, with the more personal albums, "Tunnel of love" 1987, and the doublepublication, "Human touch" and "lucky town", 1992, and in 1995 he came with another acustic album, "The ghost of tom joad", wich was followed up by an acustic solotour. In 1999, he reunited his legendary E street band, he had left ten years earlier, the reuniontour showed with a number of sold out koncerts, that springsteen still had the touch to live performance. The tour was followed up with an album "The rising" 2002, and was the first album with E street band, since "Born in the USA", the album was inspired, by the terroraction on september 11 2001, and was followed up by a tour.

In 2005, bruce springsteen was once again more or less solo, when he published the album "Devils and dust", wich was a comment to the gulfwar, 2003, but he was definetly not solo when he published the album "We shall overcome: The seeger session", an album wich only contains older folksongs, and wich peter seeger, had helped with, and on the following tour, bruce springsteen was assisted by an orchestra of almost twenty musicians.

Bruce springsteen is first of all known for his dynamic liveperformance, and his socialrealistic songs about ordinary people in good and bad. Since the beginning of 2000, he have becoming more and more political engaged, in 2004 he participated, in the democrate john kerrys run for president, with the "Vote for change" tour.

After finnishing the tour he is on now, he will begin working on his next album, wich he will make together with his, E street band.

Bruce springsteen has recieved several awards from his work, like "Polar music award", in 1997, and he got an oscar for the song "Streets of philadelphia" known from the movie "Philadelphia" with tom hanks.
