Bug Zappers have been in use for a very long time, and have always been a great alternative to stinky citronella candles. There have been some significant advances since the units were first introduced. New models can cover a much larger area, and prices have dropped significantly, even as effectiveness has increased.

So if the mosquitoes are driving you crazy, and there's more of them than you can kill with your hands a bug zapper may be in your near future. One of the nicest things about these is that they're completely ecologically friendly. They don't use any Fox, sprays or poisons. This means that they're going to be completely safe for you your children and your pets

Some of the new electric bug zappers have features that were only dreamt of just a few years ago. The construction is now rugged and weatherproof it. Most of the materials used to manufacture new electric bug zappers will not rust crack or fade.

The bulbs are in now inexpensive and easy to replace. Units are also more electrically efficient, making cost only pennies a day to run. Most units now also feature a nonclogging grids. In the past, if you had a day where they were simply way too many mosquitoes and flies, their tiny insect away carcasses could accumulate on the grid and cause short-circuits. With new designs this is no longer a problem.

Stinger bug zapper or electric fly swatter?

Stationary bug zappers have their advantages -- once they're installed, you don't need to touch them except for very occasional cleaning and bulb replacement.

But if you want to take a more active role in pest control (hey, that rhymes!) You may want to take a look at an electric fly swatter. This is a new kind of electronic bug zapper that is actually handheld. Basically, what you got is a combination of a tennis racket and a bug zapper. These new machines don't cost very much and can actually inject an element of fun into insectile genocide.

Although these pest control tools look like toys, they are not. They do incorporate safety features, such as the need to press two buttons at once to activate the electronic grid. But they can cause a shock.

They seem pretty sturdy, but I don't think that you would want to slam them against the wall or the railing of your deck like you would a standard rubber flyswatter. The real fun in using these things is to zap the bugs in midair. Most of these units run on a couple small batteries and can be used as either an indoor bug zapper or out of doors.

Deadly Electronic Fly Swatter Techniques...

Yyou can either use a classic swatting move to kill the bugs, or use what I call the "hover and spook" technique. To do this, hold the racket at an angle, several inches above and behind the insect which is lighted under table or desk.

Use the other hand to spook the insect and cause him to take off. When he does simply bring the electric fly swatter across his path. With a little practice, it's not too difficult to get to the point where you can clear out a deck or pool area fairly quickly.

I think the best way to use these is in combination with the stationary bug zapper. That way the stationary unit takes care of the bugs which are attracted to the bait and stalled inside, or the light with no effort on your part. More recalcitrant customers can be subjected to the techniques described above.

I hope this little article is help you to make a decision concerning pest control for your family this summer. None of these devices is very expensive and they all get the job done. What's not to like?
