The J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Vehicle Dependability StudySM placed Buick at the top of the list for 2009. This moves Buick up from a 6th place ranking in 2008.

J.D. Power's extensive Vehicle Dependability Study (VDS) reviews 202 problems owners have experienced with their vehicles over a 3 year period of time. It is based on information provided by over 46,000 original owners of 2006 model-year vehicles. The fewer problems experienced the higher the vehicle ranks. Buick received a 5 out of 5 ranking for Overall Dependability, Powertrain Dependability and Features and Accessories Dependability. These results significantly outranked Acura, BMW, Cadillac, Infiniti, Mazda, Toyota and Volvo.

Continuous improvements made to the Buick line in the last decade have kept Buick among the top 10 rankings in the VDS since 2003. Considering the VDS study is run over a 3 year time span it is safe to assume the 2008/2009 models will continue to outshine the competition. For 2008 the Buick LaCrosse was the model highest ranked in the J.D. Power Midsize Car division.

In this harsh economic climate consumers are reluctant to purchase new vehicles. Their decisions are now "need" not "want" driven. When they do decide to make such an investment they are selecting vehicles that will hold up well over a long period of time. The expense of replacement parts and anticipated service visits are also being considered now more than ever. Buick will have more takers simply based on the Powertrain Dependability ranking derived from fewer reported engine and transmission problems. This combined with proven customer satisfaction in Buick's exterior, driving experience, controls, displays, seats, heating and air conditioning systems makes Buick the cream of the crop.
