Windmills are a source of free energy and best of all they produce GREEN energy, which is very important to planet earth and the surviving of the human specie. Windmills are becoming very popular everywhere, and they're not very difficult to build, neither expensive, in comparison to what they can offer. In this article, I will answer some of the most frequently asked questions about building your own windmill. For that, you first need to know, that a windmill has a base, a tower, blades and a gearbox.

What is the base and how to do it?

The base is the source of stability of your windmill. You need to use strong materials, like concrete. If you want to freely move your windmill, in that situation you just need to use sandbags.

What is the tower and how to do it?

The tower is, what will support the windmill and blades and needs to be as tall as possible. You should use strong but flexible materials. Plywood is a good choice. The tower should be 5 feet tall, at least.

What are the blades and how to do it?

The blades are, what will catch the wind and bring it inside the windmill. Normally, for the best energy gain and performance you should buy pre-made blades. Unfortunately that can be a bit expensive, but it's worth it. If you really cannot afford the pre-made blades, you should create your own blade, again using strong but flexible material (plywood is recommended). The blades should be in direct comparison with the tower, so if the tower has 5 feet tall, the blades should have three feet in length.

What is the gearbox and to finish my windmill?

The gearbox is very important. This piece is, what is going to permit that your windmill captures the energy. To finish your windmill you need to connect the blades with the windmill, and for that you can use a shaft, which is non-expensive and do the job.

Finally, i know a little more about windmill build, what now?

Now, you've everything you need to start building your own windmill. Just use this knowledge, and act, buildĀ  on your own. You'll be pleased, you'll get free and green energy, you'll save money. Try it.

First of all, the title of your hub made me laugh because I've never thought of building a windmill - let alone ask questions.

Then I remembered that building a windmill in our district is very controversial. Glyndebourne Opera decided they wanted a big wind turpine and loads of people protested!

Thanks for an unusual hub.
