Building A Garden Pond

A garden pond can really add something to your garden and is a nice feature to have. A garden pond is really only limited by your imagination. You can make one as small or big as you wish. So how do you make a garden pond? Well this hub will teach you.

How To Build A Garden Pond

First off do some analysis of the space where you want to build a pond. Check out if there are things like trees, rocks etc in the way. You need to consider if you can move these things or even use them in your landscape. Decide if you are going to build a small pond with a water feature emerging from a slope, or is it a large pond filled by an incoming stream? Once you have decided what size of pond and where mark out the area on the ground.

Now you need to excavate the site. If you are building a small water feature then only excavate to an approx depth of three to five feet is ideal. If you are going to use a hard tub liner then you can slide this in to place. What you want to do is make sure there is little chance of leakage over the sides of the pond into the space beneath the pool liner. Sometimes you find that you need to submerge something with the liner so they stay submerged until the air is worked out. Something like stones will do the trick.

If your tub has a pump outlet hole then you can attach the pump and tubes now. Find a place among the water plants to hide it. If you put some weed fabric on the streambed along with some washed stone this will help keep it in place. Lay the pump hose along the bed to the start of the stream and then add larger stones around the hose.

Now you can start to add the water plants.

All right it is now time for the big test. Turn on the water and enjoy your new pond.

Do you have a big garden?
