Building vs Pre-Owned

I talk most about interiors, now let's talk about exteriors, primarily building vs purchasing pre-owned homes.
I vote, building, you get what you want, designing around your family needs instead of inheriting someone else's style of living as well as not inheriting old maintenace issues or upgrades. The home featured here is an example plan I found on eplans.com their software allows you to design, rearrange, etc. according to your personal taste.
I designed two homes with emphasis on an open living area, large baths, large closets and a large bar dividing the kitchen and living area or great room. Everyone gathers in the kitchen so why not make it open so your family or guests will actually use those rooms. I also love the patio as an extended room, creating a garden room on the patio off of the main living area brings nature into your home. If space allows, place an open fireplace in the center of the room or at least centrally located to bring warmth and romance to family and guests. I recommend a garden patio located off of the master as well. The master is your private escape to serenity, I also recommend large no framed windows, your view is not obstructed and once again allows nature to be your backdrop. If you build in the city this may be a bit of an issue due to privacy. Windows can still be open use soft shades or my particular preference is shutters. This leaves a fresh clean appearance inside and out.
