We had purchased our property and were really excited about what we were going to have done to this great big house,so we returned to Bulgaria to discuss this with the builders, who are contracted to the firm we bought the property from, what we wanted doing. The builder manager could speak very good English so whatever we asked for he understood, we explained about wall's being knocked out and all sorts of things, he showed us local shops to buy bathroom's and tiles and laminate flooring's , he even took us into the mountain's one day to meet a freind of his to discuss the cental heating system, we were really impressed, and left Bulgaria feeling relaxed and happy about how thing's were going.A couple of weeks after arriving home I got a bill, from the company for about £120 this was apparently for the builder manager's services, this was totally unexpected,especially since he took us in the mountain's , which took most of the day, to see a man about heating and also to show us a house he had there,I wasn't pleased. We also had trouble with email's and getting any information and updates, we returned to Bulgaria a couple of months later and after an email saying things were going ok , What a disappointment we had , It looked like a couple of men had been their for two day's to start the work , all that was done was the very first part of digging up the floors, it had taken 2 months to do this, but we accepted their apologies and were reassured it wouldn't happen again so we carried on with the company. I will tell you all about the next time we went over in my next hub. I do not want to put off anyone buying property over there cos it is a beautiful place but would like to say beware and do your homework, if anyone is serious about buying I would recommend you read an_ aussie_ in_bulgaria web page created by a freind who has lived in Bulgaria for a couple of years and has been writing a diary on her life over there and she lives in the same village where we have bought a house, She has just started her own real estate business and with her speaking our language and her knowing what the brits want and how we live I think this could be a distinct advantage for anyone that wants to buy over there.
