Bull Durham 2: But Crash you promised us it would never happen!
58Is the public really crying for a sequel?
Kevin Costner promised us he wouldn’t ever do it. His exact words were, "I continue to push the rock up the hill. I won't make movies I don't believe in. I'll never make a sequel. I'm going to direct three or four more. And I hope you like them." I believed him. Mr. Costner maybe not the greatest actor but a very good one had one thing going for him, other than a few blockbuster movies, it was that he saw the big picture; sequels are usually inferior films, and often ruin the reputation of a classic films, for example American Pie was classic, the dozen or so American Pie films sucked bad! There was no Field of Dreams 2 or Dances Again with Wolves. So why is he agreeing to make a Bull Durham 2.
I know exactly how you are feeling right now, it feels like we have already lost cabin pressure and are going down in flames already! Panic has set in for fans and production has yet to begin, we’ll here is my opinion, Cease and desist immediately. We don’t need another installment. The first was funny, and clever. It was well acted with Costner, Sarandon, and Robbins and the supporting cast was great too! Last we heard of them, Nuke made the major leagues, and Crash had eternity to hear all of Annie’s theories! And Crash already became the all-time leader in Minor League homers. Nuke would be fine in the majors, because as Annie states, the self unaware usually make it through life just fine. What more to the story could there be?
Well here is the latest word on the new installment <(SPOILER ALERT)>. Crash (Kevin Costner) will finally make it to the majors as a manager of a team. But now here is the twist, the owner of the team is none other than former pro Nuke LaLoosh (Tim Robbins) and his wife. Oh yeah, and Nuke’s wife is none other than baseball groupie Annie Savoy (Susan Sarandon).
This whole thing is a mess! The first movie’s ending was perfect; in fact the whole story was great. We don’t need to relive Bull Durham, and I was proud that this movie wasn’t tortured the way Slap Shot was with terrible sequel after terrible sequel. I truly hope everyone reconsiders, and Costner rekindles his hatred of sequels. This is what’s best for all Bull Durham fans, to preserve arguably the greatest baseball movie of all-time, not to make more just for the sake of more money. And Mr. Costner, I am interested in the other projects you want to direct, why not make those instead, hell I would even rather watch Water World 2 than a Bull Durham 2 just please reconsider!
