Baby On A Bumbo Video

This is hot news. Serious head injuries prompted the Recall of Bumbo Baby Sitter Seats. New warnings and instructions are to be provided to consumers. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with the manufacturer Bumbo International, of South Africa, today announced a voluntary recall of Bumbo “Baby Sitter” Seats. Consumers advised to stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed. The reason indicated is the risk of serious head injuries. If the seat is placed on a table, countertop, chair, or other elevated surface, young children can arch their backs, flip out of the Bumbo seat, and falling onto the floor.

So please do not use Bumbo seat now and wait till the company comes out with further information. And please do not buy any new ones for the time being. Currently Bumbo is being sold on stores like Target, Wal-Mart, Sears, Kmart, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, USA Babies and various other toy and children’s stores nationwide, and various online sellers. The recalled Bumbo seats are sold on these stores from August 2003 through October 2007.

Consumers can contact Bumbo International at (877) 932-8626 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday or visit the firm’s web site at www.bumbosafety.com

I was sure your video was going to show a baby falling out of the chair and banging its head on the ground. Thankfully that didn't happen.

I used one over 2 years ago, before they were even in our stores. I purchased mine online. I had absolutely no problems and ofcourse would not use it on an unsteady or high surface or leave my child unattended. That is probably the reason why it is a voluntary recall, so they can add that warning to those that need it.

Chia   says:

I love the seat...It is only common sence that one should not use it on high surfaces! Duh! My daughter loves it ..... If you us it correctly then you should have no problem! Parents just need to follow the intructions on things like this....It clearly states on the BUMBO SEAT its self NOT to use it on the high surfaces, and never leave the child ununattended! I think that Parents are to blame for the problems !

Bumbo seats have NOT been recalled. The company who makes them is issuing a SAFETY WARNING. They have, however, temporarily suspended sales of the seat until they can update their packaging with new warning labels to reflect the (common sense) instruction not to place the Bumbo on an elevated surface. Parents can contact Bumbo to receive new warning label stickers if they so choose. The seat itself has not been recalled. http://www.bumbosafety.com/

I have a Bumbo and love it! The instructions clearly state that this isn't a babysitter and not to put it on top of coutertops, exc.! Parents are putting their child in this Bumbo on or near places they shouldn't be. Please don't blame the company because it's not their fault! Use common sence please!

I love the bumbo myself and it is ignorant people that don't know how to read that cause us all to have to loose things we don't want to get rid of. yes I am sorry kids got hurt, but people wise up PAY ATTENTION TO DIRECTIONS AND TEND TO YOUR KIDS!!! All these frivilous lawsuits and we wonder why amercica is in the shape it is in.

Jessica  says:

This is absolutely the most ridiculous "recall" I've ever said. PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE!!!! IT SAYS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX: "Do not place on raised surface" "Do not place above ground level". These are the same idiots that put their kids in carseats on chairs and sofas and walk away from them. STUPID!!!!

Sampati  says:

We can now see that what is humor for comedians, may actually be a warning for people who need to be removed from the gene pool. It sounds funny but now I see that there really does need to be a warning on irons for people to NOT iron clothes while wearing them. They also need the 'WARNING: Contents may be HOT on coffee..." Just because the consumer throws away the instructsions does (or should) not equate to the product as being dangerous. It does however, equate to the uesre as being idiots and not the manufacturer.

I USE THE BUMBO SEAT FOR MY SON AND HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO BE A SMART PARENT AND SIT THEM ON THE CARPETED FLOOR NOT COUNTERS!! ALOT OF THESE RECALLS COME FROM LAZY PARENTS WHO THINK THAT THEY CAN JUST LEAVE THEIR CHILDREN ANYWHERE!! COME ON PEOPLE USE SOME COMMON SENSE!!!

Nicole*  says:

The "anouncement" is for STUPID parents who dont read the warning label on their kids toys. your not even supposed to leave your babies unattended in a normal strap-u-down high chair!!! the bumbo seat clearly states not to use it on raised surfaces, in the original warning label. and HELLO babies and kids have been wriggling out of 'safe' baby products for years!!!! shit happens ! WATCH your kids or you take that risk.

debbie  says:

I have to agree with nicole above every company has to come out with the stupid parents manual and parent who have done these stupid things shouldn't be parents it is only common sense

When it comes to kids, it's better to err on the side of safety.

Dee  says:

So if you put your child on the table and the child managed to roll over and hit the floor would you sue the manufacturers of the table? The Bumbo manufacturers clearly warn against using the seat on an elevated surface - don't people read anymore? And SunSeven - please read the warning on the glider- ottoman that states in no uncertain terms to NOT EVER use the ottoman for infants. Sheesh. This USED to be a literate country!

Mom  says:

My child some how was able to get out of the bumbo at around 3 or 4 months of age, just so every one knows. I didn't think it was possible.

Noah's mommy  says:

I am extremely careful when it comes to my son's safety. I love the bumbo! I understand that when a baby arches his back he may be able to tip over. That's why I never left him alone sitting in it. And if he's doing that frequently he's probably getting too big for it and will soon be sitting on his own. I used it when I was sitting on the carpet playing with him. It was nice to not have to hold him all the time and he could sit upright while I played or read to him. When I saw him starting to arch his back I realized he's too old for it and put it in the attic. Shortly after he started sitting by himself. Parents need to be more careful and learn to read warning labels. It is comman sense to never put any baby chairs on top of elevated surfaces!

Golnaz  says:

I don't think people should panick and run to return these. This is a good product when parents use it properly.

This recall is horrible. I work in the infant room of a childcare center and use a bumbo and a bebe pod everyday. There is nothing wrong with the bumbo seat (it's actually great for babies that hate tummy time). The problem lies with the stupid parents that don't know how to follow directions. The warning is clearly labled on both products. The writing on the bumbo is on the small side but it's red! You can't miss it! The makers of the bumbo should have fought this recall in court. There's no way they could have lost. The warning is already there and no added warnings are going to make the lazy parents comply.

Angi  says:

I was shocked when I couldn't find a warning on the box or anywhere with my bumbo when we purchased it from Target. Common sense told me to only use it with her on the carpeted floor and with supervision and only for 10-15 minutes at the most. I am a paranoid mother, not all parents constantly think of what can harm their children. For that reason, all thing sold for our young ones should have warnings everywhere. Most thing do.

I HONESTLY CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THESE SEATS! IT JUST DUMBFOUNDS ME AS TO THE STUPIDITY OF THE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TODAY TO PUT THERE CHILD UP ON AN ELEVATED SURFACE AND EVEN WORSE TO LEAVE THEM UNATTENDED LONG ENOUGH OR AT ALL TO LET THEM TIP OVER. THINGS LIKE THIS JUST ENRAGE ME! I USED THE BUMBO SEAT FOR A LONG TIME WTIH MY DAUGHTER AND AS SHE GOT BIGGER AND STARTED REACHING FOR TOYS COMMON SENSE TELLS YOU SHE IS GETTING TOO BIG. AND THE PICTURE OF THE BABY IN THE BUMBO SEAT ON THE STEPS OF THE HOUSE. HOLY COW HOW STUPID ARE YOU AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THE PICTURE YOU MUST BE PRETTY FAR AWAY AND WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CATCH YOUR BABY. PEOPLE WHOSE BABIES THAT WERE INJURED FROM THEIR SEAT ARE GOING TO HAVE A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF THEM IF THERE PARENTS ARE THAT STUPID. SORRY IF THIS IS RUDE BUT THIS STUFF JUST PUTS A FIRE UNDER ME AND MAKES ME THINK WHATS WRONG WITH PEOPLE. AND HALF OF THE ACCIDENTS THAT HAPPEN IN THE WORLD TODAY WOULDN'T HAPPEN IF PEOPLE WEREN'T SO GOSH DARN DUMB OR NIEVE.

I bought the Bumboseat because a friend of mine just loved hers, I hated it! I never placed my child in it on a surface other than the floor, but my child got out of it and tipped it everytime I tried to put her in it. I would NEVER recommend this product to others. I understand the package may have said not to put on a elevated surface but then when making online sites they should not show the seat being used on a tabletop, counter, etc. or state great for eye level feeding, which I see is now no longer on the site. I think the product should have been tested further before being released.

As most people on here have been saying, My son loves it It is common sence dont leave your child unattended, My son is 7 months and has tryed to get out of it but i dont let him.. and i never leave him on high or unsteady surfaces, its not the companys fault its the parentes, Parents should read the box carefully before using..

THe problem is that the Bumbo Seats are not the problem its that the parents (no offence) dont watch them while there sitting on a counter or table we've used ours for a while now and everytime we but our baby in the seat we watch her. Once again no offence. But yeah. But sometimes it can be dangerous but we never had a problem.

Angie  says:

I own and use the Bumbo regularly. I would not give it up for the world. My daughter is 6 months old and we have been using the Bumbo for 3 months already. We use it for play time, eating time and when I am fixing her hair (she's got a head full of curls).

The video at the top disturbes me. The ignorant B* not only has her child sitting in a Bumbo on an uneven surface, but it also moves. It is just a matter of common sense. Would you set you chair on an uneven surface that not steady? I sometimes sit her on the countertop while fixing here hair, but never unattended!! If I have to leave the room I either move it to the floor or take my child with me. I have never had the first problem or scare.

I will never get rid of my Bumbo. It's a great invention, as always there is just some idiot out there to ruin a good thing.

I have used my Bumbo for months now and love it !!!! For god sakes people use your head when using products . Common sense is all you need to have inoder to use it properly! I Highly recomend this product!!!!!!!!!

miahbaby  says:

people are so damn stupid, its common sence not to put those things on anything else but the ground. this is where those type of parents rely to much on the bumbo seat. it already gives you a pre warning on the box when you buy it. those parents should honestly be the ones to be charged for neglect for not supervising there babies while they are sitting in there. i can honestly say that the parents of the baby in this you tube video are dumb asses for not only putting there baby on a higher surface but something that swings back and forth. i can keep going but i wont. all i can say is parents need to wake the hell up!

IT'S SAD TO SAY BUT ITS THE PARENTS FAULT THOSE BABIES GOT HURT AND IT'S A DAMN SHAME THEY ARE MISFITS AND WANT TO POINT THE FINGER AT ANYONE BUT THEMSELVES!!!!!!!!!!

That video right there is exactly why the damn thing was recalled!! Who puts the baby in the thing on a MOVING ottoman???? Like seriously??? I would never put my baby on that even if i was right there. Thats just plain dumb and asking for trouble.

Jeannie  says:

I used this for at least 8 months and nothing. Common sence, you don't use this when your child is not being watched. And you really should not leave them unattended when they are up high. Also, you should not be dumb enough to let a child who can bend themselves back in there to be in it. Would you let your child in a baby swing knowing if they sit forward they are going to flip forward? NO! You don't let them use it anymore. So does this mean that they should recall swings???????? Everything has problems; you just need to know how not to let the problem happen.

JGonzalez  says:

I just have to say that people need to stop saying common 'sence.' Sence is not a word and common sence means nothing. Common SENSE on the other hand would indicate that a phrase made of two english words would not indicate that one of those words would be spelled differently in that phrase.
