Burial Insurance
62Death is one of those subjects that is often hard to think about. However, the fact of the matter is that we all die and therefore we all need to think about the financial burden that we may potentially pass on to our surviving loved ones. Burial insurance allows you to have peace of mind because you will know that your family will be taken care of when the day of your passing comes.
The fact that burial life insurance is hard to think about presents a problem. Topics that people do not want to entertain are often times shrouded in misinformation and speculation. This article attempts to clear some of the fog by answering the 7 most frequently asked questions about burial expense insurance.
Will Burial Insurance Cover Everything?
The sad truth is that most burial expenses are in fact not covered by term insurance. Term polices are inherently flawed because they only protect the individual for a specific length of time (normally 5 to 15 years). The vast majority of people actually end up living longer than the length of their term policy and thus get no benefit from the policy.
Is "Guarenteed Issue" (aka "Non-Medical") Life Insurance a Good Option?
You should always be wary of the phrases “no medical questions” or “guaranteed acceptance” because these are the tools that scam artists use to reel in their victims. Some life insurance websites say guaranteed issue is a good option, but again this is contrary to the truth. There is a deductible of around 2 to 3 years. During this time you are not covered. Unless you are in very good health and see no medical problems cropping up in the next few years then I would not recommend you go with this option.
Who Can I Pass The Benifits Of My Policy To?
Normally you can choose to pass the benefits to a relative, spouse, or someone that has a vested interest in you. This can include a business partner, charity, or in some cases even a close friend. The limits that are imposed on who can receive your benefits are to protect you from fraud.
Can Companies Cancel My Policy If I Get Sick After I am Covered?
Legally, no change in your state of health can cancel your policy. However, if you fail to pay your premiums at any time then your coverage can be lost. If you feel that you may forget to pay your premiums then you should contact a close friend or family member to be sure they get paid on time.
Can The Money From My Burial Insurance Policy Be Used For Other Things?
Yes. The individual (or charity) that receives the benefits gets to decide what the funds are used for. Normally the funds are only used for burial related expenses, but they can theoretically be used for anything at all.
Is a "Guarenteed Issue" Insurance Plan The Only One That Is Offered?
No. There is a wide variety of products available for all of your burial needs. Most plans do not have those waiting periods like the guaranteed issue plan does. You want to look for a burial insurance policy that has immediate coverage, very few medical questions, and one that does not require a medical exam.
Why Does Burial Insurance Cost More Than Term Insurance?
It costs more because instead of only covering you for a short time, you are covered for your entire life. Burial insurance can also never be canceled if you just simply pay your premiums. The best thing about a burial insurance policy is that you cannot outlive it.
