Burns and Scalds

If the burn is not extensive or deep (with tissue destruction), pain can be relieved by cold packs (clean cloths wrung out in cold water) or by submerging the burned hand or foot in cold water.

If the burn is caused by chemicals, wash burned area thoroughly with water. Remove clothes with chemical stains. Consult a physician. Take the chemical in a container to show to the physician.

If burn is extensive, keep the patient in flat position. Remove clothing from burned area, but if it sticks to the bum, leave in place. Cover with

clean cloth. Keep patient warm. Take the patient to a hospital or to a physician at once. Do not use ointments, greases, powder, and so forth.
