Twitter Tips For Business Growth

Using Twitter to grow your business

Twitter is an online micro blogging platform you can use to drive traffic to your website. Twitter gives you real time updates from the people you follow. The posts, or "tweets" that you send out are sent in real time. Your character length is limited to 140 characters, so it forces you to give quick compelling posts in order to grab attention. Through various search features, you can create a target audience and very quickly get your message out to thousands. For many businesses that rely on traffic to there website, you can post tweets that encourage others to visit your main website.Twitter is a platform for you to communicate with people you would never have met before.

Here are some technique's and suggestions you can apply immediately:

  • Run a search in the tab people search for big names in your industry. Once you find someone, follow some of there followers.
  • Run a search in the blank box right below your Favorites tab. For whatever your looking for, type the keyword with quotes. For example: "Real Estate". You will find real time tweets on the keyword "real esate".
  • Follow only those that have a picture, bio, and a related topic to your interests as a general rule of thumb.
  • For every 10 tweets you send, make sure you send 8 value packed informative, interesting tweets to your 2 marketing pitches
  • Always RT someone or "Retweet" a quote, a post you enjoyed. That will boost the morale of your following, build relationships, and allows you to share that great information with all your followers.
  • @reply someone when you would like all your followers to see your comment to that person. For example; #FollowFriday @joesmith He is a great contributor, and I highly recommend him. #FollowFriday is simply a recommendation by you that others should follow that person.
  • Use an application called www.tweetlater.com for both posting tweets and searching for targeted people in your industry. You can setup your posts the night before on tweetlater to where you have 30 tweets going on at specific times throughout the day. This application will save you so much time, and help you become a significant contributor.
  • In your avatar, use a good picture. If your in business, look professional, try not to put something up that looks like your at a party.
  • Your bio should have keywords listed. Such as; Real Estate Investor, Social Media fanatic, coach, mentor, family.
  • If you have a website, make sure that website is on your bio and on your auto responder via tweelater.
  • Remember to always give valuable information. At the end of the day, people do business with you because they like you and trust you. If you spam people all day saying BUY NOW!! then your shut off. But if they find value with your posts then the chances of someone paying you for your offering are much higher.
  • Start engaging conversations with people. Ask hard hitting questions, answer back to other questions with a twist. Do not be afraid to be completely yourself. You are the best you, and noone can duplicate that!
  • For the most part, try to keep your topics related to your bio and background.
  • Use a good background. You can do that in the initial setup of your account.
  • Send posts to other people's website with compliments. The more you give, without the expectation of anything in return, the more you will be a trusted and liked contributor.
  • Use Fridays to give compliments to tweeple that you enjoy reading posts of. This is called #Followfriday using the hashtag # first.

The bottom line is twitter is a traffic machine, and its FREE! Imagine having 10,000 + targeted followers! A very large percentage of those will go to your website that you should have setup in the bio or on tweetlater as an automatic response.

A certain percentage of your followers will find your tweets very useful, and eventually will visit your main website. The key at this point is to capture there information. Let me give you a basic traffic workflow with these followers.

  1. Use these and of course other techniques to become a significant contributor on twitter. Eventually people will like you and trust you, or quite honestly, they may not.
  2. A percentage of your followers will navigate to your main website
  3. When they land on your website, they will be directed to either a "squeeze page" or opt-in form for them to fill out.
  4. Offer something absolutely FREE! Give your new visitor a free ebook, gift certificate, or whatever your business could offer for exchange of the name, and email address of your visitor.
  5. Use an Autoresponder to handle these tasks. Squeeze page, or Opt-in form, and Autresponder to your visitor a "Thank you" and the FREE gift
  6. Follow up with your newsletter, updates, podcasts, video, etc.

I recommend using AWeber as a trusted business partner for automating your visitors. They are excellent and very easy to use and work with.

Here is a follow up tip: Give personal calls and emails to your opt-in subscribers. After roughly 7 times they see your post, email, video, or whatever, they have a certain level of connection with you. When you call them personally that is what will make you stand above and beyond most businesses. A simple thank you for opting in, or thank you for your business really goes a long way.

There are literally thousands of third party twitter applications. As a warning, it is very easy to lose yourself in the sea of information. Keep things simple, with only a small handful of applications you use all the time. For a great guide on these applications visit Top 25 Twitter applications For Business.

This is exactly what I needed, thanks! I'm still dabbling with how to best use twitter to help my business. I think that these ideas, plus maybe using TwitterHawk will work out best for me for now. Not sure how cost effective TwitterHawk will be for me in the long run... will let u know! Maybe I'll write a hub about it :)
