Introduction

What is a business management system?

Usually when a new company comes to the market, the owner have to register it using a name and a lot of paper work to do it, at that moment we should be thinking how to take control of our investment and how to keep i. So, When does the business management system comes to show up?

At the very begining a business have to be planed using a direct stategy written on paper, our management system comes at that moment, when we decided to make official the existence of a strategy.

A business management system is a set of steps or procedures that we "MUST" follow when we start a new business and when we manage an old business too.

This procedures usually are:

  • Setting up business plan or apply the business plan if already have one.
  • Market research and advertising
  • Looking for potential investors (even if our business is already running)
  • Management of products and services


  • Management of staff and employees
  • Improvement
  • Research of new products
  • Analyzing the competition


Binding all elements

One common mistake that I have seen with some companies is when they use a competitive department system. This works when all departments are working together to achieve a goal but doing some kind of competition, however, not always is like that. A year ago I was working in a EMS company, this company had four main deparments: Testing, Processes, Quality and Production. The main task of this four departments is to produce a specific amount of products with good quality and functionality, however if the product or the production had any problem either with quaility, functionality or production number, each department used to argue each other blaming all together and so with no solution. It is the same for business management elements all elements should work together.

A common issue that I have found when applying business management systems is the method of advertising vs price overall. One day when I was looking for a new printer I got very happy when I found that it had 20% of discount, so I took the printer and when I went to paid it, the price was different like 30% more. I really got very frustated, the sales man apologized for the incovinience but I did not buy the printer even if they make a mistake I really thought that they tried to trick me. We have to bind all elements without making any mistake; Bringing the case of the printer, believe me, they lost me as a costumer and believe me too that I told to my friends about this issue and they decided not buying there. Lets think about this for a moment. What would you do if you were the owner of that store? I would be really frustated if I knew that I lost several costumer by mistake.

What can I do to bind all elements?

Simple, get all your departments together. If the marketing department agreed the price of the printer with the product department, nothing had happened.
