Essential oil diffusers are devices that help spread the aroma of essential oils in a room. The scents of these oils may be relaxing or merely just to make a room smell good. There are different kinds of diffusers available. Here are the items that you need to look for before purchasing your own essential oil diffuser.

Let’s start with the cheapest and home solutions that can be used for diffusers. The simplest method is placing the essential oil on a tissue and to place it near a fan. After a couple of minutes, the scent will spread into the whole room. Another means of diffusion is the steam diffusion. Boiling water and putting in a few drops of the essential oil will help dissipate the aroma into the room.

Another essential oil diffuser that is widely used is the candle diffusion method. These may come in sets, complete with the essential oil and candles that can also be used as decorative materials. The technique is to light the candle and drop the essential oil into the melted wax. The aroma of the essential oil will quickly fill the room.

The diffusers that you see in malls that are shaped like pyramids and made of small terracotta pots are called clay pot diffusers. These don’t require electricity and have an opening where the essential oils are to be added. The diffuser is closed through the use of a cork. This is great for small confined spaces as the amount of odor depends on how much oil you put inside the essential oil diffuser.

Let’s now go to the more sophisticated kinds of essential oil diffusers. Since these require the use of electricity, they are more powerful in spreading the fragrance of the essential oils and is best used for the ultimate relaxation. Fan diffusers use have absorbent pads where the oils are placed for more effective diffusion. There are also models available that use batteries which makes them portable.

If you want a stronger whiff for a larger area, electric diffusers may do the trick. This is because they function similarly as fan diffusers but heat the essential oil so the scent fills the room faster. The only disadvantage that this essential oil diffuser has is that the heat may cause the essential oil to lose its therapeutic benefit, therefore defeating its purpose.

Speaking of therapeutic benefits, nebulizers are the devices that you should buy if you are planning to use essential oils to heal certain ailments. This is because of the special plastic bottles attached to the machine that breaks down the essential oil ingredients into smaller particles so that they can be inhaled and absorbed by the body better. Despite the fact that they can be more expensive than other essential oil diffusers, some people use nebulizers to treat coughs, colds and other respiratory problems.

When choosing an essential oil diffuser, the purpose is the number one priority. If you are using them for relaxation, then opt for inexpensive ones. Alternately, invest in diffusers that would deliver therapeutic benefits.
