Solar power solutions at home

With energy resources depleting at a faster rate than they are beingreplaced, it is only sensible that we should make use of the everlasting energy available around us for free – the solar energy. Easy availability aside, the sun helps control the pollution affecting the environment. Most people, myself included for a while, restrain from installing solar power solutions at home thinking them to be expensive and cumbersome. You will, however, be pleasantly surprised to know how easy it is to employ these power solutions. Moreover, these will help dramatically to reduce your energy bills. Of course, you'll also be ppleased to know that you are helping save power for the future generations.

This hub will explore the various solar power solutions available for home use.

Solar cooker: A solar cooker is a cooking utensil that needs absolutely no fuel for cooking. You can cook dinner for up to 5 people in the small box. If you are reflecting that using a solar cooker will lower your chances of serving up a banquet for the family, you will be surprised to know that you can not only boil food items in the cooker but also roast and bake! The only downside with the solar cooker is the time that it takes to cook. However, given the free source of energy it uses, this is a great option for reducing those huge bills and saving energy.

INTERLUDE--- Did you know?

Solar cells are devices that convert light energy (photon) into electric energy (electrons) through a process known as the photovoltaic effect. The term "photovoltaic" is a Greek derivative coming from the terms (phōs) for light and "voltaic" for electricity. The photovoltaic effect was first discovered in 1839 by the French physicist A.E. Becquerel but the world would have to wait until 1883 for the first functional solar cell to be built by American inventor Charles Fritts. This first cell used Selenium and had an efficiency of 1%. In 1954 while experimenting with semiconductors, Bell Laboratories introduced the first practical silicon solar cell which was doped with specific impurities that began the evolution of what would become today's high efficiency solar technology.

Solar modules that used these early cells had an efficiency rating of about 6% which was first demonstrated in April of 1954. In 1958 Vanguard 1 became the first satellite to use solar technology to power its electronics in space. Today solar panel costs have dropped dramatically and have efficiency ranging from about 6% for thin film technology and up to 18% for conventional crystalline technology. Modern solar panels are used in residential solar applications and Commercial Solar applications as well as off grid solar power and RV solar power uses. Solar power panel systems are even used to provide emergency power and for Solar powered air conditioning systems in homes and businesses.

The greatest benefit of solar energy is that it does not pollute. Before learning how to build a solar panel, you would have noticed fossil and nuclear fuel have been causing problems in our green environment. But beyond that, we are also becoming very dependent on these options, and the majority of what we use is produced outside of our own countries. This also leads us to dependence on the foreign exporter including the fluctuating pricing.

The sun is a natural energy, and maintains the earth's ecological balance. Oil and its derivatives, on the other hand produce a great amount of pollutants. To supply the average home with electricity for a year, 22,000 pounds of carbon monoxide will be produced during the processing of the needed oil.

Solar home lighting: A solar home lighting system turns solar energy into electrical energy for your home. This is done through cells that are charged with solar energy. So, in the night, if you wonder how the lights are on in the house, it is because of the solar energy stored in the solar cells. You can install the solar home lighting system in your house and not worry about the electricity bills anymore.

Using fossil fuels to provide energy over the past century has brought the human race to a crossroads. Humans are facing environmental and economic meltdown unless they find alternative, clean energy sources.

Solar heating system: Installing a solar heating system in your home helps reduce your electricity bill along with saving the world’s quickly-diminishing power. If you are worried that a solar heating system will turn your lovely home into a house full of gadgets or that it will be an expensive investment, your concerns are misplaced. Companies providing solar power solutions for your home make it a priority to install good-looking heating systems in your home. As far as expenditure is concerned, investing in a solar heating system is wise because you get a return on your investment within 3-4 years, giving you absolutely free service after that.

No Promises but...If you've been considering solar power for your home or business, it's now time to celebrate ! After nearly a year of debates and nine previous attempts, in October of last year Congress finally approved a bill that not only extends the Federal 30% tax credit for solar but also removes the $2,000.00 cap that existed on the previous residential tax credit.
That's an incredible 30% with no cap for residential and commercial installations

Make power at home with solar and wind energy to eliminate your power bill.
