Buying Leads for your network marketing business?
53If you have been in MLM for awhile, you have probably either purchased leads, or heard about purchasing leads from others. At first glance this may seem like a great idea, but here is why I am not a big fan of it. First of all only about 10% of the general public are salepeople, so that means if your not a salesperson you are already going to be at a huge disadvantage if you begin calling people on the phone. Keep in mind unless somebody has requested more information from you personally, it is a cold call. I will give you an example, I had over 10 years sales experience when I started buying and calling on leads in network marketing. I purchased hundreds of leads over a 4 month period and never signed 1 person up. Yep, not one person. Not even for a lousy $50 bucks. Now listen, I have made numerous sales over the phone for $25,000. So why was I failing at $50 or even $200? The reason was the quality of the leads. The leads simply were poor quality. Meaning 95% of the people I was talking to were unqualified to begin with. Most of the people didn't need a home based business, or another opportunity, or an expensive health product, they needed a job.
So how do you eliminate the above? You have to become a marketing expert and only market your product or service to people that have a desire to learn more about your company or products. Only focus your energies on people who are in a position financially to afford your products or opportunity. If you are marketing a functional health beverage that cost over a $100 you are probably going to focus on baby boomers or professionals who have a surplas of income, not people working at McDonalds earning minimum wage. Realize that most lead companies that are selling leads, are selling multiple leads to multiple people. They are getting their leads through enticing advertisements that may get people to sign up only because they want something for free. There is nothing wrong with giving something away for free, I do it with my E-book through my website.
So is there a way to get leads without actually buying them? Absolutely, most of my leads have come from people I have either met online, by referral, or through my own advertising. I have never signed up a cold lead, just off a phone call, at least not in network marketing. If you can do that, you probably shouldn't be in network marketing, you probably belong on Wall Street. As for purchasing leads, I personally would be very cautious on throwing away your hard earned money on purchasing leads. You would be much better off marketing yourself, or business through your own advertisements and let people contact you directly. Or only follow up with those people that express a genuine interest. I could spend hours on this subject alone, but I won't at least not on a blog.

Telemarketers for lead companies have quotas for different types of leads. They are under great pressure to produce "interviewed" leads, "real time" leads and other types. Quite frankly, the lead companies FREQUENTLY lie about the type of lead they are selling. The quality control over the telemarketers is sketchy at best. Purchased leads are a waste of money and time. Refer to my hub on lead companies.
