When you're looking at buying a baby stroller, there are several things that you'll want to consider before making a purchase. There are a large number of different styles out there, with tons of different features, and it's important to make sure that you're getting the size, style and features that you want when you buy your baby stroller.

In this article, we'll take a look at the different types of baby strollers available and see what you need to consider before making a purchase.

Safety

The primary consideration when looking to buy a baby stroller is the safety of your child. You definitely want to buy a new stroller from a reputable manufacturer and store. I like buying used products in some situations to save money, but this is not a time to try and save a couple of bucks. Buying a used stroller could be dangerous since you have no way to know how well the stroller has been handled and treated.

Some of the most well known stroller manufacturers include Graco, BOB, Baby Jogger, Chico, Peg Perego, Maclaren, Evenflo and Kolcraft. Buying from one of these companies ensures that you are getting a top quality product that will not only be safe, but will last you for years and years as well. There are several other less well known strollers manufacturers as well, such as Safety 1st, Chico Cortina, Cosco, and Baby Trend, who also make excellent strollers. If one of the those companies has the stroller that you're looking for, you shouldn't hesitate to buy from them.

Baby Stroller Styles

There are number of different types of baby strollers, and what you're looking for will depend on what activities you want the stroller for. If all you want the stroller for is to occasionally take your child on a walk, then a standard stroller should suffice. However, if you plan on jogging with your child, or need a stroller for multiple children, or want a lightweight version, then you'll need to make sure that you're buying the right type of stroller. Let's take a look at some of the options.

Standard Baby Stroller

A standard baby stroller is generally going to look like the one pictured. Sturdy, comfortable and well-made, they often have a pocket or two for storing extra clothes and diapers, and straps to make sure that your child stays in safely. Many of them even come with enough room to store your whole diaper bag. They may also come with a sun shade and a drink holder. These types of strollers usually weigh around 20 to 25 pounds, and can run anywhere from $100 to $250 depending on the specific type and features.

Travel System Stroller

For parents who want to be able to take their child from the car and put them into the stroller easily, a travel system stroller may be the answer. One of the more popular stroller options, these systems feature a removable car seat that fits into a base in your car and into your stroller, allowing you to use just one baby seat for both places. Simply unlock the seat from the base, lift the seat out, and place it in your stroller. These systems offer greater convenience, since you only have to deal with one seat, and allows you to move your baby from the car to the stroller without waking him or her. These strollers generally go for $200 to $300 (including the stroller, car seat, and base) and usually weigh 15 to 20 pounds.

Baby Jogger Stroller

If you want to be able to run or jog with your baby stroller, you'll definitely want to check out the jogger strollers. Standard baby strollers aren't built to be driven that fast - they are not as maneuverable as jogging strollers, and their wheels often make for a very bumpy ride - and are definitely not recommended for that activity.

Baby jogger strollers are built for a bit of speed, as you can see in the picture. They usually have only three wheels, instead of four, to help with steering, and the wheels are larger to handle different types of terrain with greater ease. These strollers are generally a bit heavier than standard strollers, for the added durability, and most will clock in at upwards of 30 pounds. They also usually sell for upwards of $200, with some going as high as $400.

Lightweight Baby Stroller

For parents looking for a lightweight version, there are lots of options available. Most of the lightweight strollers are collapsible as well and can be stored easily. These sorts of strollers generally weigh 10 to 15 pounds and can cost $100 to $200 dollars. These strollers are also called umbrella strollers, and can go all the way down to the absolute no frills version as seen in the picture.

Double Baby Stroller

Lastly, if you have more than one child to take around with you, you'll certainly be in the market for a double baby stroller. The biggest difference among double baby strollers is whether the children are put in side to side, or front and back. The front and back models are easier for one person to steer, but some people prefer the look of the side to side models.
