Science can add years to life but not life to years….

Science has achieved stunning feats. Technology has been developed to prevent aging and prolong the life span. But does longer life really means a more fulfilling life?? In the early 50s a women gave birth to twins. Complications developed and one child remained in coma. The infant turned man is reported to be alive but in pitiable conditions. The other child lived until his wad 23 years of age, when he was hit by a car and killed on the spot. Can we call the first child alive at all? Science could save his life. But neither is the man sufficiently conscious to experience his surroundings nor can he realize the meaning of life. Technology can prolong a person's life. But it can't add meaning to it. Science can tell us how the universe works, but can't tell us why the universe works as it studies the external world of ultimate reality. Through science, we can improve situation around us. But we can't improve ourselves. Two young men met with an accident and both were paralyzed from neck down. The first man settled for a wheelchair to live with his disability. The second man worked hard using his willpower and faith in almighty and regained normal movement.

This first case represents the lack of religion, the inner strength that enables us to function in any environment. Irrespective of how much science progresses it will remain an incomplete affair without spirituality. Outer and inner development needs to be integrated for a wholesome life. Prolong life is not a bad thing. But let it be for adding meaning to life.
