Cisco says that less than 3% of all Cisco certification holders go on to become CCIE qualified.
Although, there are several industry certifications, the CCIE is the most beneficial certification to add to your resume. The CCIE certification holds much value and prestige to your resume. The CCIE helps network engineers increase their income; ensure job security when the market softens, and build up extensive knowledge in networking. A CCIE has the experience and resources to resolve networking problems quickly and effectively and are a value add to any company to ensure network stability.
Being a CCIE will increase your chances of getting a better job. If you want to work for a Cisco’s partner, your CCIE status brings value only if you’re an active CCIE. This requirement makes sense: partner CCIEs are usually faced with critical production problems in customer networks and thus have to hone their skills continuously.
There are no formal prerequisites for taking the CCIE certification. But Cisco expects that a CCIE candidate have two years of experience. It is always recommended to study for the CCNA and CCNP certification before to starting the journey to the CCIE certification.
There are 6 different tracks of the CCIE, which are: Routing and Switching, Security, Service Provider, Storage Networking, Voice, and Wireless.
The CCIE certification requires passing two exams: the written exam, and the lab. You cannot take the lab exam until you pass the written exam. To pass the lab exam, you score should be at least 80 points.
The written exam is a two-hour having 100 multiple-choice question. The CCIE lab exam is an 8-hour, and actually has two parts: the core knowledge and the lab. The lab exam costs $1400 for each attempt, and can go up to $1750.
To pass the CCIE lab exam, you should have deep understanding of the lab exam blueprint topics, and also an extensive hands-experience. A CCIE candidate must use the Doc CD effectively.
