In order to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, you must have CNA training. It will be difficult to be hired if you do not have the appropriate training and experience. Before you apply to a training program, be sure you have any prerequisites under your belt. You may be required to have a high school diploma as a necessity. Check out the school's requirements beforehand to be sure you are not missing any important subjects for entry. If necessary, you can always take an additional class in a night school to help you qualify for the program.

Obtaining experience can be on the job experience from a previous employer or it can be as simple as gaining experience within a co-op environment which works along with your schooling. Most programs include a clinical practice portion in the curriculum which will put you in the work environment to gain hand's on experience from colleagues and as a requirement to complete your CNA training certification. Putting what you've learned into practice in a learning environment is essential in the CNA training experience. In this type of environment you will be comfortable to ask questions on areas you do not know and will not be expected to know how to do everything like you will when you are on the job.

CNA training will consist of many different areas which you will require for working in the nursing field. Some of the classes that your training will focus on will include: anatomy, nutrition, physiology, and infection control. As well, basic patient care such as bathing, feeding, grooming, assisting nurses and doctors, obtaining vital signs, etc. will also be taught.

Before you apply to a CNA training course, be certain that this is the career for you. It is not an easy job. It will require heavy lifting. You may get a lot of dirty jobs to do and come across things that are not pleasant to look at or smell. As well, you may be dealing with grief. You will require patience and the ability to handle potentially explosive situations in a calm manner. You will need to be organized and have the ability to work well in a team environment. You will need to have genuine compassion for your patients. You will need to encourage them. If you think you can handle all this, then this may be the job for you. There are lots of positives as well It will be a rewarding career for you. You will be helping others, making them more comfortable in their hospital stay. Lots of satisfaction will be gained by practicing as a CNA.

CNA training can be found at pretty much any local college or university.  You may also find it is possible to take parts of your CNA training via an online source.  Applications for CNA training can often be completed online.  When filling out your application forms, it is a good idea to print out a copy for your own reference.

Make a folder for each school that you are applying to.  Within each folder, keep all application copies and other pertinent information about the CNA training whether it be brochures, curriculum information, costs, etc.  Make a list of the positives and negatives for each school that you are applying to. Keeping yourself organized at this stage of the game will help you in the long run.  When an acceptance letter (or letters!) arrive in your mail, you can quickly open up the folder pertaining to that school to refresh your memory about that educational option.  If you receive more than one acceptance letter, you can easily refer to the appropriate folders and make a decision as to which school is most suitable for you.
