CRAZY MATH SOLUTION

CRAZY MATH SOLUTION

This is interesting. A friend of mine gave me this tricky math problem when we were on our freshmen years during college. Now he is a chemical engineer and this problem always making me reminded about him.

Some mathematicians do solve a problem the quickest way as possible to simplify things. Also the essence is for some scientist and engineers not to deal with the solution from scratch so that they could work right away on their projects. Aside from that mathematicians tend to give tricky math problems. This is for the reinforcement of the study. On the other hand, some tricky problem, such as this, requires somewhat breaking some math theorems.

At the end of every solution, there will always be an answer. :)

I want to prove that 1 = 2 using only one variable and Algebra alone.

X = X

X2 = X2

X2 - X2 = X2- X2

>

By quadratic properties:

X(X – X) = (X – X)(X+X)

Canceling (X-X)

Therefore:

X = X + X

X = 2X

Canceling X

1 = 2

Crazy isn’t:)

Yeah you're right! 1 = 2, at least in the equation above. I must admit I did check however (i was sent to the Math Olympiad in grade school ahem! LOL) :D

Granted, my husband is the engineer, but you lost me at the quadradic equation.

Where did the (X+X) come from?

if you multiply the (x-x) and (x+x) it will be (x^2 - x^2) :) same or equal with x(x-x) :)

Good brainteaser.

I have found the proverbial fly in the ointment, however. I didn't know if it was proper etiquette to post a solution.

I'll be happy to elaborate if desired.

The Answer is that if we find the value of X-X then we get zero and if we divide any number by zero it is undefined

So the step where X-X is cancelled is wrong.

I think it is crazy,and mathematically illegal.Driving wrong side of the road in wrong direction may be crazy and illegal.if x + 6 = 0......(1)

and x + 420 = 0..........(2)

from (1) and (2)

RHS=RHS

x + 6 = x + 420

cancell x either side

6 = 420

is it crazy? Mathematically illegal.
