You have found what you hope will be the job of your dreams. If you feel that way, so can a lot of other people who have seen the same details. You have to stand out from the crowd. Most job vacancies ask for a CV in the first instance.

A CV is vital today if you want to be taken seriously by a prospective employer.

Once a company starts the ball rolling for a new employee, be it in the newspaper, through an employment agency or word of mouth, the letters start arriving on the bosses' desks.

The first thing they will do is weed out the ones with bad spelling.

Wud u employ a typist who cud only right or tipe SMS or chatspeak? OK for texting friends but will not impress the Boss.

Next will come the ones that have put no thought into selling themselves.

Curriculum Vitae are Latin for ‘life story', and that is what an employer wants to know from you. Not what you had for breakfast or mundane things like that, but how much you value the skills that you possess and why you think you will be an asset to his/her company.

Think of your CV as being your shop window. Make it interesting, whilst making sure all the facts are correct also include your hobbies. If the Boss does not like what he/she reads you will not get to the next stage .... the interview.

The most obvious things are sometimes missed.

Name

Address

Telephone number

Date of birth

Education

Schools and colleges you attended and examination results.

Your work experience.

How many jobs you have had and for how long.

Skills that you learnt in these jobs.

Include any references that you may have.

Interests outside of work.

Bell ringing, art, judo anything that makes you the person you are.

You only get one chance to do this right and that is why I think it is worth investing in a professional company to help you. They will be able to set it out in the correct format. They will highlight your best points and make suggestions. It will also be in an easy and clear form. In the long run, funnily enough, this does save you money and stress, because if you do not get the job you still have a professional CV to try again. It is unfortunate that there are often more candidates than jobs these days. That is why a professional CV will often be the one deciding factor when a Boss comes to choose. At least give yourself a chance.

If your CV does not at least spark a bit of interest in your, hopefully future employer, you will never get to the next vital stage....the interview.

Try my acronym.......TASS

T....be on time for your appointment.

A...Appearance, dress suitably.

S...Show an interest in the company. Look up details about them and have questions ready to ask them.

S...Smile, have confidence in yourself.....you can do it!
