Review - Cabo Cush Hotel

In Cabo You Can Pay More For A Hotel Room - But You Don't Necessarily Get More...

Remember that fancy resort hotel time share salesman’s pitch? It went something like this:

“If you want quality beds, cushy pillows, fine drapes, linens, great service, convenience to the heart of Cabo, excellent service, free Wi-fi, large screen TV’s, expensive decor, gym, onsite restaurant etc. – you better buy now because next year it’s going to cost you more!”

Granted Cabo Cush Hotel in downtown Cabo San Lucas Baja California doesn’t have a swimming pool, it's not on the beach, and it's not a villa overlooking the crashing surf -but it’s close to Cabo’s sizzling nightclubs, fishing charter boat filled marina, casinos, designer malls, golf and all the amenities listed in that time share salesmen’s pitch, plus Free Calls to the USA, Canada & Mexico.

You can walk to all the cool places you want to visit – and save the cab fare that can run $30-50 r/t easily from some of the area hotels. Did I say $50 bucks? – heck, that’s all they charge for the rooms at Cabo Cush Hotel!

Tip - If you have to have a pool, you can buy a Day-Pass at the Marina Fiesta Resort or Playa Grande for $10-20US. The price includes credit or discounts at their restaurants etc.

One day while visiting Cabo, owner Jeff Layton speculated about why economy and quality couldn’t co-exist in a hotel? The former textile company exec (bedding, cushions & linens) envisioned creating a luxurious, economy boutique hotel for business people, no nonsense seasoned travelers, and Cabo’s growing medical and dental vacationers to stay in while having treatments.

A detail oriented person, he personally oversaw the planning, design and construction to the finishing decorator touches. The hotel sets a new standard for economy hotels approaching some resort room accommodations costing 3-4x’s as much.

This writer stayed there recently and was impressed by the top quality Sleep-Aire pillow top quilted mattresses, soft high-count cotton bed linens, super fluffy pillows and bolsters with designer shams that match the bedcovers. The wood windows had black-out curtains covered in expensive brocades and the baths, counters, mirror surrounds and exterior hallways were tastefully decorated with expensive hand-painted Talevera tiles. The large screen TV had more channels than I could count, and the mini-split a/c was quiet and un-obtrusive affording me a good night’s sleep.

Their Cush Café’ serves huge omelets and a veggie stir fry with egg whites (not on the menu) and traditional Mexican and American standard fare for breakfast and lunch at bargain prices. A dinner menu is in the works. One can eat in the air-conditioned salon/art gallery (it reads Cantina over the door), where 2 overhead monitors show CNN, sports, MTV etc., or outside on the Talevera tiled and plant filled entry patio.

The salon has the ambience of a ‘Cheers’ bar. I enjoyed conversations with a British tourist, a music producer, 2 dental American dental makeover patients, an attractive young woman recovering from plastic surgery and an artist who lives in the basement. A motorcyclist regaled us with a story of how riding across Baja’s Vizcaino desert at high-speed, his saddle bags caught fire.

You had better get to Cabo Cush Hotel soon as I heard the owner talking about building a swimming pool and I’m sure if that ever happens, the room rates will certainly go up from the current $50 to perhaps $56...

Here’s a final tip: This season Healthcare Tourists can Stay Free at Cabo Cush Hotel. For details check out: www.cabocosmeticdental.com or www.cabocosmeticsurgery.com

One last bit of advice – don’t mention Cabo Cush Hotel to any time share salesmen – you’ll ruin their day.

Hi Davey: Sounds like my kinda place. Especially when you compare it to this benighted country where a decent B&B costs about $150 a night.
