Caladesi Island

#1 Beach in North America

On May 22nd, millions of Americans learned what locals have known for decades. Caladesi Island State Park is the number one beach in North America.

If your idea of a beach is a tourist attraction with condominiums, restaurants, and beachfront hotels, Caladesi Island will surprise you. For one, you have to reach the park by boat. A large pontoon ferry will take you over to the island, where you have access to public restrooms, eating areas, and a small shop for conveniences. If you're lucky enough to own your own boat, the island also has a great marina.

Tips for Your Visit

  1. Bring sunscreen. You can purchase it on the island, but you're better off prepared.
  2. Bring shade! A small tent or umbrella will really help you make the most of your day.
  3. No alcohol! Don't even try. You'll have enough fun without it.
  4. Bring beach toys for the little ones--but don't forget to clean up after them.
  5. Consider bringing a small trash bag with you to carry home your wet and sandy items.
  6. Hydrate!
  7. During sting ray season, shuffle your feet. It'll scare the stingrays away before they pose any danger.
  8. Don't forget your camera.

Embracing Nature

Visiting Caladesi island is like stepping away from civilization and seeing Florida as it was centuries ago. The waves crash gently, quietly. Native birds nest in the dunes and in the pines and cypress trees. On the bay side, mangroves house scores of fish, turtles, and even snakes.

Dolphins play and gulls cry on the wind. It's a sensation that takes one away from the stress of everyday life. Whether you're bringing your children or just bringing a book and a blanket Caladesi Island State Park holds something for you.

It's a great place to visit for:

  • Corporate Picnics
  • Honeymooning
  • Family Vacation
  • Fishing
  • Kayaking
  • Summer Barbecues
  • Sunning
  • Excercise!
