Calcium Deficiency, Are You at Risk?

Calcium Plus

Do you know how much calcium you need?

Calcium is one of the most important trace minerals for normal functioning of your entire body. In fact, it is the number one mineral by quantity needed by the human body. With age, the average person becomes more and more depleted of calcium. By age 40, over 50% are seriously calcium deficient and by the age of 60, over 90% are calcium deficient.

As a result of calcium deficiency, the body must begin to find the calcuim from the only place it can, it's emergency reserves...the bones. This of course leads to osteoporosis which then leads to pain, fractures, impaired physical ability and many other symptoms.

These declines are proof positive that most people are not getting enough absorb-able calcium in their diets. In fact, research shows that over 80% of chronic illness can be related directly to calcium deficiency. And, yet, the typical American diet remains high in saturated fats, excessive animal proteins, refined flour, and refined sugar. All these things contribute to calcium loss. Even if you maintain healthy eating habits and enjoy a diet rich in fresh fruits and vegetables, you are probably not getting enough of the calcium your body requires.

Farming techniques over the past few decades have left our once rich and fertile soil depleted of minerals and our foods poisoned with toxic chemicals. There are over one billion pounds of pesticides used every year. (that's over 40 pounds per person)

Dairy products were once thought to be a good source of calcium; however, commercial dairy products are loaded with residues of antibiotics, growth hormones, and many other chemicals. They are made with milk that is pasteurized, homogenized and tainted with synthetic vitamins. Pasturized dairy has an un-absorbable calcium. It is of no use to the human body. Dairy products as a source of calcium are out of the question.

The bottom line: our food sources are nutrient deficient and loaded with toxins.

Are You Calcium Deficient?

Research has shown that 98% of the population is calcium deficient. Unless you are currently supplementing with a high quality calcium and are maintaining an alkaline pH between 6.8 and 7.2, you are calcium deficient.

Here are some common symptoms of calcium deficiency. This is a limited list.

  1. Alzheimer's Disease
  2. Angina
  3. Arteriosclerosis
  4. Headaches
  5. Bleeding Gums
  6. Bone Spurs (Calcium Deposits)
  7. Cancer
  8. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
  9. Diabetes
  10. Eczema
  11. Fibromyalgia
  12. Joint Pain
  13. Muscle Cramps
  14. Gall Stones
  15. Gout
  16. Arthritis
  17. Heart Disease
  18. High Cholesterol
  19. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)
  20. Indigestion
  21. Insomnia
  22. Kidney Stones
  23. Osteoporosis
  24. Heart Palpitations
  25. Hiatal hernias

The list goes on to say that there are over 200 degenerative diseases and medical conditions that are directly related to calcium deficiency.

What Are Your Options?

If you have any signs of calcium deficiency, you have three options.

  1. You can ignore the warning signs
  2. You can take a prescription drug
  3. You can supplement your diet with calcium

To ignore the warning signs of calcium deficiency (or any other mineral deficiency, for that matter) is dangerous. No one wants poor quality health and a life of aches, pain and agony. That is why many people turn to prescription drugs for relief.

Over the last several years, many new drugs have been introduced to alleviate the symptoms of calcium deficiency. They slow bone loss and even block calcium absorption. Masking the symptoms, however, with drugs is a deadly practice, with a host of side affects. The real problem, though, is these drugs simply treat the symptoms; they do not get to the root of the problem.

Just how dangerous are prescription drugs? In 1999, the American Medical Association's own study listed the use of properly prescribed medical drugs as the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States.

The final option is to supplement your diet with calcium. But, here lies another problem. Most calcium supplements on the market today consist of ground up oyster shells, an extremely poor source of calcium for the human body. In fact, research shows that this type of calcium is 99% in-assimilable. This means that your body can not absorb it and use it. It is a waste. Manufacturers even mix their calcium products with dissolving chemicals and pig digestive enzymes in order to trick your body into accepting it. Why in the world would you want to use a dietary supplement that your body clearly does not want and then try to trick your body into accepting it?

Even more alarming is the fact that taking these poor quality supplements will actually make you more calcium deficient. Your body must actually deplete it's own precious calcium reserves to rid itself of the toxic calcium you are taking.

There Is Hope

Unlike other forms of calcium, Calcium Plus is naturally ionized for easy absorption, naturally contains a 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium and will correct the acid/alkaline imbalance in your body. Once your body is in an alkaline state, there is greater absorption of other nutrients your body needs and you will have a healthy body, free from chronic disease and pain.

Do your research. There is a ton of information on the web about calcium and calcium deficiency. Be proactive, not reactive. Buffer your body with absorb-able, ionized Calcium Plus, before you have chronic symptoms. If you already have health issues, take the first step toward better health....maintain an alkaline pH between 6.8 and 7.2 and allow your body to begin healing itself. Read more here about alkaline forming foods.

Michelle-

Great Hub. The source of the nutrient is absolutely the most important. We were always intended to receive all we need from our food, that being mainly living plants. Unfortunately that does not happen and many are forced to try and get minerals from rock. Minerals derived from rock, no matter how small or as marketing suggests, nano particles, it is still rock. Minerals were to absorbed from the soil and released into the plant where our bodies can then utilize them.

Thanks for being such a tremendous support and encourager. I appreciate you-

Thanks Michelle! A terrific piece of writing. And a suggestion, why not do another on another linked nutrient, magnesium? Seems to me that magnesium may be at least as important for many of us as calcium, if not even more important. Thanks again, and keep up the good work supporting natural health alternatives!

Michelle: Very important information, because of the processing of our foods and green harvesting supplementing our diet is now a necessity. Please keep the Hubs coming with your excellent articles. David

Michellle,

Maybe I missed it, but I don't think you mentioned vitamin D. If a person does not have enogh vitamin D levels then they won't absorb the calcium. I have Osteopenia because I never ate dairy for years and because I live in Seatte and because I wasn't absorbing the vitamin D I did get.

Good article!

Thanks,

Bill

Thanks, I did over look that very important piece of information. It's so true, you can't absorb calcium without vitamin D

Thanks, Bill, for getting in an important piece of information I missed.

Thanks for all the comments. I will write another article about calcium rich foods as well as alkaline forming foods. Consuming alkaline forming foods will help stop calcium loss.

Actually I found another article I already wrote that talks some about alkaline forming foods. Here it is http://hubpages.com/hub/pH-balanced
