Facts about Calcium?

What is Calcium?

Calcium is considered to be the most abundant mineral in the body.  It is famed for building strong bones and teeth.

However, studies showed that the diets of most adults are calcium poor.

Why should we take Calcium?

The key and most effective way in preventing the bone-thinning disease osteoporosis is the lifetime of adequate calcium intake. Indeed each of our body needs Calcium. Our body is most adept at building bone before the age of 35. Evidence proves and so convincing that calcium rich diets and supplements help maintain bone density. They can further reduce the risk of fragile bones and fractures.

There are many researches that proved and further indicates that diets that provide 1,000 to 1,200 milligrams of calcium a day may help prevent and treat moderate hypertension. Also many studies conducted and have gathered data that suggest a possible role for calcium in the prevention of colon cancer.

Thus, everyone is advised to take calcium supplements. However, it is suggested that it is best to take Calcium in combination with vitamin D and Magnesium. The truth is, these  these nutrients work in concert with calcium to promote healthy bones.  Vitamin D increases calcium absorption in the intestine, while magnesium is involved in the actual laying down of bone.
