Always Room for One More is a delightful children's story derived from an old Scottish nursery tale about Lachie MacLachlan and his "wee house in the heather" where there is always "room for one more". Tinkers, tailors, shepherds, even dogs, dance and sing the night away ... until... alas.. the rafters groan and the walls of his hospitable little home bulge to the bursting point. Lachie's kindness is repaid .. and his grateful guests say a wonderful "thank you" .. providing a delightfully warm ending to this lilting narrative.

Another "must" for any child who loves books.

LeClaire Gowans Alger (1898-1969) was an American author better known under her pseudonym Sorche Nic Leodhas, or simply Sorche Leodhas. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, a sickly child, eventually being homeschooled. Alger was a known librarian, working from 1915 to 1966, while the imaginary Sorche was a storyteller. She sought down tradional Scottish tales that had never been written down before. Her work earned her a Newberry Honor (Thistle and Thyme: Tales and Legends from Scotland 1963) and a Caldecott Medal (Always Room for One More, 1966).
