The State of California Near Bankruptcy Looks into Economic Use of Marijuana Plant

California  had to close its government offices for a few days because the state's economy could not afford to pay its state officials. The economy of California has not been on an even keel and the trouble may have been brewing before its new governor of the Terminator fame was elected. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has been wrestling with the economy of California and can easily relate to the tough times that President Obama is dealing with as the state hedges against bankruptcy. However, instead of stimulus packages and other spending bills to get the economy back up and moving again, the state of California is proposing the  taxation the legalization of marijuana to lessen the states economic shortfall.

Marijuana has been legalized in California for medicinal purposes and delivered by couriers conservatively dressed driving a company owned Smart Car to treat patients with seasonal allergies. Also the marijuana plant has proven beneficial in the use of people strained with insomnia. The organic marijuana is delivered in California weekdays in white paper bags just as most prescription medicines and the customers are usually middle-aged or older. This information is courtesy of the Associated Press.

And as in a drug deal, the recipient inspects the white bags to ensure that everything ordered is contained and hands over a credit card for about $102.00. The transaction is as though the man in the Smart Car had just delivered an all American pizza from the local pizza parlor.

The drug transaction is legal and is not a crime in the state of California as long as the deal has been approved by a doctor and the business is delivered for legitimate reasons. California was the first state to legalize the drug for medicinal use though the the government put it  in the same category as addictive illegal substances  as heroin and cocaine. The distribution of marijuana for medicinal purposes has become a major economic force to the California state government's economy.

The Associated Press reports that Oakland, California will look into a measure to tax the cities four marijuana dispensaries which added $17.5 million in sales to the government's budget. The California government is looking to add about $315,000 to the states economy by taxing the dispensaries that distributes marijuana for medicinal purposes to patients door to door. With the economic downturn, proponents for the drug as a government economic stimulant is saying that it is likely that other states will follow the trend set by the state of California. A poll showed that half of the California population supported legalizing marijauna for medicinal purposes.

Tim Blake, a Californian and a proprietor of a 145-acre spiritual retreat holds an annual marijuana bud-growing contest in Northern California and says that he expects to see other states get on the bandwagon.  He is expecting other state to   see the health benefits and the economic benefits of the marijuana drug. But most states disapprove of legalizing marijuana  for medicinal purposes as the growth of marijuana plants in remote forests causes severe environmental damages. Also the drug is linked to violent crimes in otherwise quiet cities.

Yet California presses on with its legalized platform of marijuana for medicinal use and economic benefits if taxed as liquor could bring the state in about $1.3 billion annually. Such a tax would bring California out of its near bankrupt status as indicated by one of the states top tax collectors. The state of California seized over $17 billion of illegally distributed marijuana that dwarfed all the other agriculture products in the state's economy. Also California has some illegally made millionaires who produces high-tech marijuana equipment and for-profit clinics that specializes in marijuana plants for medicinal use the former of which had the likes of Michael Phelps infamous above his swimming trials at the Olympics

California keeps lowering it's standards for money. I remember when they licensed more Indian casinos which was going to bring in more tax revenue. They didn't care how these casinos would affect the territory, the just wanted the money.

Regards

rb11, thank you for your comment. The sad thing about the casinos is that the Indians abused alcohol which did not help matters any.
