For many years, the Filipino population has struggled with the country’s unstable economy, battling the challenges of calamites and unemployment along the way. The country produces countless of graduates every year, but only a miniscule percentage of them get jobs. The unfortunate trend of companies preferring graduates of prestigious universities and colleges, and the fact companies both big and small are making cutbacks in order to survive the decline of the world market, has taken a toll on the country and its employment rate.

This only emphasizes the major problem that there is abundance in manpower, but a shortage in jobs.

However, the dismal unemployment rate of the Philippines has now taken a positive turn. Employment rates are now soaring as the telecommunications industry rises in power and takes over the metropolitan area.

Hundreds of thousands of college graduates of various majors and different colleges and universities, are now flocking towards the booming call center industry in hopes of getting a job to reverse their unfortunate financial situations.

Call centers provide telecommunications assistance to foreign companies, both big and small. In order to succeed, the industry would need technology and manpower, both of which are abundant in the country. And unlike other industries, the call centers’ main requirement is proficiency in English.

Having a high literacy rate and rising to the third spot of the list of English speaking countries, the Philippines has embraced the steady increase of call centers, it’s appeal to the job hunting population irresistible. The Filipinos’ literacy and proficiency in the English language is the factor why the country’s telecommunications industry is set apart from the rest of the world.

Foreign companies choose the call centers of the Philippines for the reason that the labor costs here are relatively low. Their interest therefore is supported by the fact that doing business here allows them to achieve more at a lesser cost. Fortunately for the Philippines, their active interest in the country’s telecommunication industry has given jobs and opened the doors of opportunity to many Filipinos.

Good fortune continues to smile upon the Filipinos as the telecommunications industry make it easier for them to get call center jobs by establishing training centers. These training centers provide tutorials and training in English to give assistance to those who are not fortunate enough to be proficient in the language.
