Heads up everyone, the lost comments have been restored at the very bottom of the page, under the box. A big thank you to the HubPages team for restoring these!
Poll for Contestants and others interested in being part of a future poetry contest
Would Hubbers like me to hold another Poetry Contest?
- Should there be cash prizes?
- To fascilitate cash prizes, should a reading fee be initiated?
- What would a suitable reading fee be?
- Should money be split beween reading fees and winning Hubbers?
- For a monetary prize contest, how long should the contest run?
Hubbers, I want your insights, so that if another contest is held, it's a contest you have helped to shape.

Woe, this is so weird! Did you figure out what happened?
No. It was so great to get everyone's feedback--and then it all disappeared. It's very frustrating. I've contacted HubPages but so far haven't heard back from them.
You are an incredibly gifted writer, Veronica. I hope if I hold contests in the future, you will send more work.
Thanks. Sure I will.
Please keep us posted as to what Hubpages says. You had alot of great comments here, I was coming back to read them just now. This is really upsetting.
if you accidently deleted the comment box messing with editting your page, it's gone. :(
have done that. any pretty stupid thing that can be done, I've probably found. :p
Hi Veronica,
Yes, it is upsetting.
Idunn,
I don't think I hit the comment box by mistake but you never know. The comments just disappeared after I had removed some of the original contest info. Weird.
that happens to me with links, almost all the time. that is why usually I put links into text boxes. I think it took me 8 hours of messing with links boxes on my last hub and they still kept disappearing. bah
I've seen a few bugs with link capsules, but comments shouldn't disappear. If you delete the comment capsule they will be deleted...Will be sure to look into this just to make sure.
I'm sure we would be willing to sponsor a poetry contest. The question I have is what do all poets want?
I'm a go-alonger like Daisy in "On a Clear Day"... I'm pretty much in with what everyone else wants to do. Unlike Bush, nobody including myself would classify me as "The Decider".
Hi Paul,
This would be another poetry contest held by me and published on my blog.
I love that idea Paul, The Hubpages Poetry Competition, write an advertising slogan for hubpages? lol or youguys could just do it like Poetic muse and run a write a poem about this picture competition.....jimmy
Hey, guys, this was my idea!
hello how is it going,,,,,, any more comps going i would like to know

Cool! Can we send funny ones? No. not naughty limericks. Clean and funny, I mean.
Hi Kenny,
Yes, this is open, but please just send one.
Oh, okay.
Hubbers, if you like this idea, please give this Hub a thumbs up so that we can spread the news and kick things into high gear.
Hi, i just sent you one of my first attempts at a poem, hope you like .....jimmy
Hi Jimmy,
Yes, I do!
I wish i could write something that rhymes, something funny and interesting with appropripiate lines.
I wish i could write something to please you, with poetry that rhymes yet does not mislead you, so i shall refraim from this task and leave it to the true poetry class.
I really like this idea of yours and have given it a thumbs up because it sounds like a good cause..
Compu-smart, did you realise that you had just written poetry?
I wish i could write
something to please you,
with poetry that rhymes
yet does not mislead you,
so i shall refraim from this task
and leave it to
the true poetry class.
Not only the first para, but all together. Serious.
Why don't you just send one and forget the rhymes?
lol Kenny you flatter me! really..I was just being silly! although i would love to write some poetry to really express myself like many of the poetry hubs here which i don't do..
So, don't watch this space;)
Hi Compu, have you ever tried prose? I would be interested in seeing your work.
I am finishing a hub on Christmas disasters, where I have included a beautiful poem, not by me.
It is a famous poem can I send that to you please?
Thank you for your email, yours is the first hub I looked at, buried amongst several
Hi Athlyn,
I don't know the difference between a poem and a rhyme! and now you have thrown "prose" into the equation which has just baffled me even more! I researched the web to help but just is confusing for me..i think i will leave it to the pros..
Thanks for your interest. I also have no work to show you........yet;)
compu - I thought that was adorable. :)
Athlyn, neat idea~ you have my thumb.
Thanks guys,
Please don't feel intimidated. I'm interested in words, rhyming or non, that evoke strong emotion in the reader. I've done assistant prose editing so can brush up your work, re: construction, but I'm mainly interested in poems that cause us to think or provide that "ah ha" moment of recognition.
Wow! The poems are coming in. Please spread the word to other Hubbers.
I have answered your wonderful call! But may I send more than one or is that being a bit greedy?
Smiles and Light
Hi Auragem,
Please just send one. I may run more contests in the future. I want to give each poem the scrutiny it deserves so I don't want to be swamped with extra material. Please write a Hub anouncing this and linking back to this Hub, so we get the word out. I think this will be a great way to highlight some of the skill our writers obviously possess.
"ah ha" Athlyn Green ...I have a short cool story that is jumobled up in my head and i have always wanted to do so once i have jigsawed them all together i will submit to the link above...:)
and
Thankyou Iðunn,I thought you thinking what i said was "adorable" is even more so:)
this is a great idea... I've sent mine...
thanks A
Hi Drax,
I just got your poem. Please spread the word.
did you receive?
Yes I did. I sent an e-mail your way, too--about how much I liked the last tow lines
Hi Athlyn - I emailed a poem, then sent a revised email with the extra details you required for submission. Did you receive it?
Smiles and Light
I sent my poem, and put a link in my Ogden Nash hub. Cheers!
Compu-smart. I was not funny, I was serious. There was a rhythm to that comment, which could be tightened and made poetry. :)
thx, A :)
I am not very good at it.But I am trying my best. How long is this open Athlyn? Can you wait for some more time till I finish mine?
Hi Auragem,
Yes I received it.
Abhinaya,
Yes, the contest runs for January.
Athlyn.. I also sent one..Hope you received it..am not sure I did it correctly..This is fun and you are a sweetie thanks.. G-Ma :O) P.S. Good Luck everyone :O)
Hi G-ma,
Yes I received it.
Looks like you should have a decent turnout. It's going to be hard to choose.
nice hub
Really have no idea what a blog is or a hub, but can i submit a poem for my husband, and one for me? Is this where I would put the poem or is there another place that it should be typed into. sounds like fun. jonibee
Hi JoniBee,
Click on where it says 'Send your submission' in blue at the bottom of this HubPage. Yes, you can send one poem per person.
aw, athlyn, I could be more honoured. :)
Your piece was provocative and one I will read through often. Good poetry is like fine wine-something you want to sip over and over again, something that hearkens you back. Awesome poem!
I meant 'couldn't' of course. Thank you. But I suspect you knew that. Me and my checking after the fact on comments. :p
I do hope your Glorious Cause of bringing poetry to more people and more people to poetry is successful but of course your Revolution is in the trying so you've already won. :)
Thanks Athlyn, I cant believe that I came second, poetry is not a strong point of mine, and I wrote that last year when I was at a low point, remembering the past.
Iðunn your poetry is always a pleasure to read and you deserve the top spot fantastic well done jimmy.
Drax, Veronica and Gemma, I think that you guys should have been placed before me, i loved your entries and I think you guys did a great job.
thanks Athlyn, I enjoyed your competition, I hope you will do a repeat soon.....Jimmy
congrats, jimmy. you know I remember when you put your poem up and it was so real then and then again on re-read today. it really is outstanding.
Hi Jimmy,
Your poem was thought-provoking. I would definitely keep at it if I were you. You did well. I was considering a number of factors when judging the poems.
Jimmy, thanks for the nice Words. i enjoyed your poem a lot! Keep writing.
Thanks very much Athlyn, it was lovely to be placed at all with such strong poetry competition on Hubpages... congratulations to everybody... thanks again ...Drax..
I have to say, I was so impressed with the poems that came in. You guys are awesome! What a talented bunch. I hope you send your work out, if you haven't already done so, and share it with the world.
Congratulations, Iðunn! Unpoems rule!
And congratulations, Jimmy, Veronica, Drax and Gemma! :)
Athlyn,
I just found this Hub today so I have missed the chance this time. However, I would really be interested in submitting the next time around! I think this is a great idea!
Bonnie Ramsey
Hi Bonnie,
That gives me an idea. I think I will poll Hubbers as to whether we should hold another contest.
athlyn, yay! I'm glad they could get them back for you and us all. :)
Me, too!
Thank you Kenny!
HubPage poets,
* What would you like to see in a contest? I will consider holding another if I receive feedback from you.
* How could we get the word out to other Hubbers?
* Should there be cash prizes? Or is publication/linking enough?
I'm willing to go with the decision of the masses, you know us quasi-socialists. however as a quasi-socialist, I'm also dirt poor so any fees would have to be minimal for me to be able to participate.
Thanks for your insights, Idunn. I think that makes sense: keep entrance fees low so that all can participate. The fees would facilitate prize winnings. I was thinking around $ 1.00-2.00 per entry.
that would be no problem at all. anything reasonable. as I said, I'm the last and the least. I think your contest idea is lovely and a great way to stir interest in the wonderful literary form of poetry, which is so often overlooked.
pretty much whatever the others find suitable would work for me, so I hope they input for you. I'm not much of a leader or decision-maker, but it was quite enjoyable to be a participant. :)

I wonder what happened to all the comments on this Hub? They have disappeared!
