Being a self employed computer technician, I receive alot of telephone calls from people who are having problems with their computers. Most of the calls I receive are from normal people, who will help you to discover the problem whilst on the telephone. But some of the calls can be frustrating and keep you going in a continuous circle trying to find the problem, some calls can be funny and of course no day would be complete if you didn't receive a call from someone who thinks they know it all.

Frustrating

Hello Jimmy's computer repairs

Is that the computer guy?

Yes

My computer isn't working.

Can you switch it on?

Yes

What happens?

Wait a minute and I will tell you

Ok is it on?

Yes

So, your computer is working then?

No

What's wrong with it?

It's broke

So what isn't working?

My computer

Yes, I know its your computer but what's wrong with it?

I told you already its not working.

Ok you have turned it on what's on the screen?

Everything

Everything that's a good start, so what cant you do on your computer that you could before?

I can't do anything.

Why?

Because my computers broke.

After about another 10 minutes of going around in circles, I asked the guy for his address telling him that I would be better calling to his home to see the problem for myself.

It turned out that his computer was working fine but his mouse was dead.

FUNNY

Hello jimmy's computer repairs.

Hello, I have a problem with my computer.

Ok can you tell me more about the problem?

My computer won't switch on.

Obvious question but is your computer plugged into the mains electricity.

Hang on a minute I will check.

A few seconds later, Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr, he hung up the phone he must have been too embarrassed to talk

THE KNOW IT ALL

The argumentative know it all

Not a day goes past when you don't get a phone call from someone who knows it all, what I often wonder about these people is if they know it all why on earth do they call me in the first place?

Hello jimmy's computer repairs

Hello, my Power Supply Unit (PSU) has failed.

How do you know?

Because my computer won't start up.

What happens when you try to start it up?

Nothing I told you my PSU has packed in.

It may not be your PSU. Push the power button for me please.

No point the PSU is kaput.

Humor me, please try to start your computer up and tell me what happens.

How many times do I need to tell you the PSU is dead?

ECT ECT.

I went to this guys house switched on his computer and heard 3 beeps, opened the computer up and found that his memory card was hanging on by a thread, I put it back in place and told him that if he had listened to me he could have fixed it himself and saved himself £40.00 (ABOUT $75.00). I love the sheepish looks on the faces of these people when i find the real fault.

Of course, there are some people who genuinely do know what the problem is and either call me for confirmation, or for replacement parts.
