I love experimenting with different ways of making money from Hubpages, especially as it doesn’t cost me a single penny to take part.
I have a new experiment in the planning stages at this moment in time which could help not only myself but any other hubber who would like to take part to make a little more extra income.
My Experiment involves making a directory of Hubpages Authors whom would like to try their hand at freelance writing in a hub that I am working on called Writers for Hire.

Writers for Hire
Writers for Hire will only be open to Hubpages Authors and it will contain links to the Authors profile pages on Hubpages.
The Idea is simple, people looking for someone to write an article for them will have a ready made portfolio of every Author in the directory by clicking on the author of their choosings profile page, they can then EMAIL that same author by clicking on the contact this Author link on that page.an example of how my link could look can be found below this capsule

If you are interested in taking part in my experiment, please feel free to drop me an email, the more of us who take part in the experiment the more the chances are that it will be successful, especially if you have a blog or a website where you can add a link to the hub directory.
As you can see from my profile link above you will be limited to the amount that you can say, my link uses the maximum characters allowed in a hubpages link capsule so please be careful in choosing what you want to say in yours.

As a freelance writer money talks and you as the author will want to be paid for your work or my experiment will be a total waste of both your time and my own.
We could between us come up with a ball park figure, for example $2.00 for 100 words or we could leave the pricing up to each individual Author who takes part.
The choice would be up to you.
If you took the first option when contacted by a client who wanted a 500 word article you would expect to be paid $10.00 for your work.
if you took the second option the client would contact you and you would negotiate your own price.

Whats in it for Jimmy?
For the record I would just like to say that any deals that are made between author and client will be a private matter and I will have nothing to do with that process, I will not ask client or author for a commision of any money that changes hands.
I will get paid if a client asks me to write an article for them the same as any other person who takes part, the only difference is that when I add your link to the page I will add my url tracker in the hope that someone may sign up to hubpages using it.

Jimmy, I like the idea of a ballpark figure but only if we could all agree on one, which I think would be hard. If people are allowed to name their price in their link, there's a danger you would end up constantly updating as Hubbers try to outdo each other in offering cheaper rates - which would be more work for you and damaging for us, because it could drive the going rate down.
Personally I think $2 for 100 words is far too cheap! If people want good writing from experienced writers they should be paying $25 - $50 for an article.

I'd be happy to join in, but as a fully freelance writer running my own agency, am not sure whether this would really be "fair". But I'd be happy to join in if you wanted me to and if you had a set figure everyone agreed to abide to. Trust me if we set out own rates the buyers will divide and conquer us, as they'll play off one bid against another and this runs a risk of failing...

I agree with Marisha. $25-$100 is much more reasonable for a price. I would think $50 would be fair for a well written, content rich article, but I like articles to be around 300-500 words in length to be of much worth to the reader.
Great idea! Good luck with your project. There are lots of people out there looking for writers for everything from hubs to blogs.

update:I have written the hub and am in the process of adding hubbers links to it, some of you will recieve an email from me within the next 24 hours because i need some more details, i will publish the hub when I have the information required. remember any hubber can join at any time even after the hub is published.....jimmy

Sounds like Julie-Ann knows whereof she speaks - any suggestions how we can arrive at a fair rate for all? We should pitch it high - we don't need help to sell articles for small bikkies (on freelance sites, Constant Content etc). I think your Hub should be marketing us as premium writers (ahem) who deserve premium rates.
Maybe a forum thread to discuss and agree a rate?
