Grapes are a delicious treat, but like other fruit the amount of calories in grapes should be taken seriously. But don't be alarmed. You can eat some grapes and still keep the calories in grapes relatively low.


Calories in Grapes - The Numbers

I was pleasently surprised when I found out the number of calories in a single grape: only 3-4 calories! How great is that?

Now that doesn't mean you can start eating grapes like there's no tomorrow. But can still have some grapes for dessert or a snack and not worry so much about the calories in grapes. Have a look at these numbers:

  • A single grape: 3-4 calories
  • 10 Grapes: 34 calories
  • 1 oz of grapes: 20 calories
  • 100gr (3.5 oz) of grapes: 70 calories
  • 1 cup of grapes (150 gr): 105 calories

Although these numbers are relatively low, it is still important to remember that most of the calories in grapes come from sugar (like most of the fruits) - almost 85% of the calories.

Calories in Grapes - The Variety

So what is your favorite variety of grapes? You know what? It doesn't really matter. Different types of grapes have almost the same amount of calories. Whether we are talking about american or european grapes, green grapes, red grapes - the calories in grapes are roughly the same.

Calories in Grapes - It's Healthy

It's also important to know that grape phytochemicals have been positively linked to inhibiting cancer, heart disease, degenerative nerve disease, viral infections and mechanisms of alzheimer’s disease. So those calories in grapes have more than meets the eye and a some positive effect on your health.

Although red wine is known to help your health (when consumed moderately), don't the number of calories in grapes with calories in wine. The alcohol content changes a lot!

Stick with the calories in grapes as a small snack or small desert and you'll do fine!
