Calories in Watermelon

I love watermelon. I grow it in my garden, and when my own watermelon plants don't have melons, I buy them at the market, preferably organic. We will talk about the calories; a watermelon has some calories, although not a lot, and it is a great thirst quencher on hot summer days. I am going to share my favourite watermelon recipes with you!

There are many delicious recipes with watermelon. The calories are not an issue if you use it in little chunks to kill your hunger pangs when you're dieting, and I will give you a recipe too, which I myself find delicious, and my children find that too (which is not so easy).

Before we talk about calories...

Watermelon combines great with other fruit, just try out your own preferred combination!

I love it with papaya, grapes, apple.

And as a started I often use melon with presunto, the Iberian dried ham which is so well-known for it's distinguishing flavour. The best hams have been dried for 3 years!

The right way to weightloss

Is for everybody a different way.

Some people have great results with Weight Watchers, some with hypnosis or NLP. Some just decide to eat less and do more sports...

The first thing you have to find out is what is the right way for you.

When you have found the right way for YOU, it IS easy to loose weight.

Also check out the link below "More about watermelon", to find out how I just lost 6 lbs over the last week, in a very easy way without hunger or great effort.

I must admit, I use a diet replacement powder, and as it is really hot here now, it is actually nice not to have to eat during the day. I do realize that I will have to find ways to keep the pounds off!

I'm a watermellon lover too. Have you tried juicing the mellon? When I get one that's almost "too ripe" I juice it right away, it's wonderful!

I love watermelon, and your ideas are good ones! Mixing it with chicken or papaya was not something I had thought of! I am going to try the maple glazed chicken, sounds so yummy.... I have been losing weight but through calorie counting, and have 5 more pounds to go and I am done. Watermelon has been a fruit I have been eating as a snack and it refreshing!

Jean: I had answered you, but the comment got lost somewhere...!

I did think watermelon had 0 calories, and actually thinking about it, the sweet flavor has to come from somewhere... But I am happy that it is still very low in calories.

Viking: I looked at your page, cool. I never realised. Will check it out LOL

Thanks for commenting all!

What did you think of the recipe?

Vidah:

Did try it, it is delicious! Sometimes i have too many watermelons from my garden, and this a cool way to store them: juice them and freeze the juice. Thanks for the tip!

Newcapo:

tnx for the comment!

Aya Katz:

Pls see the nutritional facts on the seeds - if you want to lose weight, don't overdo it with the seeds :-)

Yes, eat fruits of the season - preferably organic. it will do your whole system so good. We often do not realise what the quality of food does to our system!

Watermelon is a delicious fruit. Calories arent too high, its fruit, its healthy for you. just think if you went on just a watermelon diet you would probably lose weight at just 86 calories a wedge

charkamman profile image

Rkat! You might be right!

I will do some research to see what a fruit diet does..

On the other hand, I suppose I would feel hungry on only fruit..

I did lose 2 kg (6 pounds) over the last week because I substituted one meal per day with a meal replacement drink (look here: http://www.moreinfo247.com/9246630/VAWL ). Not sure how long I will have to use it, but it tastes good. I am also taking extra CLA, if you want to know more about Conjugated Linoleic Acid, why we have a much smaller intake than30 years ago, and why this makes us fat, read http://hubpages.com/hub/Avocado-Calories .

Watermelon is hands down my favorite food. I liked your hub but I still think that I prefer my watermelon straight up - either eating it right off the rind or in cut up chunks. Of course you do mention your efforts to get your kids to eat it, and I do not have to worry about that.......

Thanks for the hub.

Lupo, I agree: I LOVE watermelon just plain - delicious when it has been in the fridge for a while.

Great hubpage. I love watermelon too. Have you tried watermelon juice with fresh mint? Cubes of watermelon, a few ice cubes and a few torn up mint leaves. Blitz in the blender for a minute or so until blended. Yummy and very refreshing!

Eagle eye: thats sounds yummie. Shall I add it to the hub? Thanks for the tip, it is really hot here now, so refreshing drinks are more than welcome, especially the ones which do not make the punds come back :-)
