The Cambridge Glass Company History
The Cambridge Glass Company was formed in 1901 in Cambridge, Ohio with the collaboration of National Glass Company and the city of Cambridge, Ohio. The location provided an industry for the city of Cambrige, and was located near both natural gas and coal in Cambridge.
In 1904, Cambridge Glass Company produced its first original line of glass called Radium. By 1906, Arthur J. Bennett who managed the company was also its principal stockholder. By 1920, trends in glass changed, and Cambridge Glass Company moved toward lighter pressed and blown ware. Also by this time several etchings had entered the Cambridge line, among them Marjorie, named after Arthur Bennett's daughter.
During the 1920's, the company came out with several opaque glass colors that were only produced for short periods of time. Later in the 1920s transparent colors became very popular, replacing the opaques.
The 1930's were highly productive for Cambridge Glass. New colors such as Carmen, Royal Blue, Crown Tuscan, Heatherbloom and Forest Green were developed, as well as many etched items. This continued even during the Great Depression.
In 1950, soon after winning honors for Square Pattern, the demand for fine handmade glassware
began to decrease. In 1954, the plant was closed by Arthur Bennett's son-in-law, Wilber L.
Orme who had taken over running the plant from his father-in-law.

Cambridge Glass is Stunning
The Cambridge Glass Company produced some of the most beautiful glass ever. Between the many unique opaque colors, and the lovely etched patterns including Apple Blossom, Candlelight, Caprice, Chantilly, Cleo, Decagon, Diane, Elaine, Gloria, Imperial Hunt Scene, Mt. Vernon, Portia, Rosalie, Rose Point, Valencia and Wildflower, many of their pieces have no match.
The pieces pictured in this article are all part of collections of members of the National Cambridge Collectors, Inc. To see many more examples of the difference periods of production of the The Cambridge Glass Company, follow the link below.
Although Cambridge Glass is part of the entire Depression Glass era, I believe that the quality of the glass made at the company stand far and above many other brands and styles of Depression Glass.

nice glass collection. nice picture also. It looks luxurious.
When I looked into this topic, I didn't even know about The Cambridge Glass Company, and it was so close to where I live. But I have to say that the etched pieces, and some of the opaque colors are just so beautiful. I really love them.
