Camping Games For All Ages

Camping is great, I used to go all the time with my parents when I was younger and now I try and go at least once a year with my girldfriend although sometimes I just go motorcycle camping with some lads from work which is ace.

Some of the things I love about camping is the freshness of being outside, cooking under the stars next to a tent and all of the cool games you can play around the camp fire.

This hub is all about camping games and I've tried to include some games that can be played by children as well as some more interesting adult ones.

Camping Games For Kids

Most people that spend their time on camp sites are either backpacking students or families with young children, more so in the summer at popular destinations like the south of France and other places by the sea.

The challenge with playing games with children is to get them to stick to the rules. For this reason its quite important to make it a simple game thats nice and easy for the little sprogs to understand.

Treasure Hunt

Camping is all about getting back to nature and what could be more fun than going on a treasure hunt. The basic idea is that the kids follow a clue or a map to the find the next clue which may be burried or hidden somewhere in some trees. And then hat clue takes them to a further clue and so on so that the game lasts around 30 mins and finishes with the kids finding a cool prize at the final place which is the treasure. Something like chocolates and sweets are best, nothing too expensive just in case someone else finds it first.

This game requires quite a lot of effort on the part of the parent but is well worth it to see the kids hunting around. Try and be imaginative with the clues but dont challenge the kids too much otherwise they may struggle and get bored.

You may also want to do some recon before hand so that you know the area and can write some good clues or draw some nice maps.

This game can also be changed depending on the season, so if its near Easter then you can make it an easter egg hunt.

Camping Games For Adults

Adult camping games normally try to push the boundaries of either what is socially acceptable or legal. I wont focus much on the illegal games as thats just wrong but socially unacceptable are ... well ... acceptable.

Treasure Hunt For Adults

This game is an adaptation to the kids version but using some high tech outdoor gear such as a handheld GPS and metal detectors. In fact it is so popular that it has become more of a craze with websites like Geocaching popping up where people can get clues and then go hunting with their GPS systems and find some treasure. In fact its not just for adults but for the whole family.

Spin The Bottle

Ok, so this one is for the young adults and can push the boundaries of socially acceptable at times. The idea is that you sit around a camp fire or just round in a circle and use a large bottle like the one that used to have vodka in but you used it all in your vodka recipes. Then one person spins the bottle and has to kiss the person that the thin end of the bottle points towards. Depending upon how strictly you want to stick to the rules, this could end up as a real kissing fest or more so play this at your own peril.

Great ideas, thanks. Having had "Boy Scouts" in the house at one time, I seem to recall a lot of "Capture the Flag" or "Snipe Hunting" going on. We usually play traveling games while in the vehicle but once we arrived we mostly played cards and just relaxed. These were some good ideas.

Hey Martin,

your statement should have been, "what if we were all boys". I wouldn't be calling anyone stupid.
