CAMPUS FASHION COOL TO CHANGE

Its year 2009,and the fashionable lot in city colleges are flaunting their own style.Fashion checks around campuses reveal that imitating filmi gods is no longer the style code, though, adapting your own style is still cool.

Generation Next has evolved their own style.Comfort is in and make –up is out.Everything subtle is in,flashy styles propagated by fashion shows in the city, are definitely out. The short kurtas of Bollywood sirens have returned to haunt the screens and streets once again, but the bold and beautiful damsels who wear them now, give them a whole new get up.Similarly the bell-bottoms and tight T-shirts sported by the early eighties muscle men, look different on today’s smiling campus heroes. There is no ofiicial dress code in any of the city colleges though ,the Principal gives guidelines regarding the accepted mode of dressing for students at the beginning of each academic year. These include, avoid wearing short tops, which is rage at the moment.According to the students a lot of them still wear it once in a way. This is especially true for modern girls who dress to please themselves.

Films,TV and friends, all these influence one’ style but only to a limit .Ultimately one wears what suites and comforts his/her.No one never adopt a new trend unless it suites them.Latest trends and styles affect one only to a point where he buy a top in a new style or wear bell bottom jeans instead of a stretch one.

For the last five years fashion for girls has remained unchanged .It’s salwar, salwar and salwar all the way . Girls do change the styes of their salwars according to new trends but very few opt for other dressing styles. This is mainly because once you get friendly with guys, they usually ask you to keep off more modern dresses as it invites comments on one’s dressing. And once you are in a group, everyone somehow ends up accepting the popular dress code.

Campus fashion:Parental view

Though fashion in the city has changed a little, what has really undergone a change is the attitude of parents, even as the society remains quite conservative on the fashion front.Parents today ,especially those from middle class and the upper class background, seem to prefer their children to be hep and stylish. They no longer frown at their children, even girls, dressing up to the hilt. And those who can afford it now see more liberal than ever at spending astronomical sums on dresses, accessories or makeup needed to keep their brood in style. And, while society is still to accept the sight of girls in shorts and slits, jeans and trousers have finally made it to a satisfactory dress code in the city, barring an occasional stare.Apart from parental approval ,what she really cares about is what here peers think. This is especially true in the case of girls from the co-ed colleges.

Sari...the ever trendy fabric

This six-yard unstitched fabric is what most Indian women consider the ultimate in elegance. We want women, whether they are 18 or 40,to think about draping the sari differently. The style of sari is also going to change .Though the gals use salwar as the daily wear they tend to use sari on occasions. After all it is the only garment that can be used in so many ways.

Jeans, an all-time favourite of youth

Jeans is now an unavoidable piece in a teenwardrobe irrespective of the gender.Comfort and durability are seen as its plus points.Through films,TV,magazines, and VJs influence the style of the youth ;it is their peers, parents and society that ultimately plays a big role in their dressing style. The MTV and Channel V,VJs are the new style gurus though rarely, styles from movies are accepted on the campus. Most of the guys wear jeans. To wear stylish clothes to college everyday, you have to spend quite a lot of money on your wardrobe, though guys are better off than the girls in this aspect.
