If you are having trouble conceiving, many times after the doctor does his initial tests to determine if there are any structural issues that many prevent you getting pregnant such as blocked fallopian tubes or cysts on your ovaries, you'll be prescribed the fertility drug Clomid to try and help you fall pregnant.

Clomid is predominately prescribed to women who are either not ovulating at all because they have a condition such as PCOS, or women who have weak ovulation and the egg quality is poor.  Often times your doctor might even prescribe it if you do seem to be ovulating each month to see if it will help you to produce healthier eggs.

According to statistics if a women who isn't ovulating takes Clomid, she is 80% more likely to ovulate normally during the month that she takes it.  And out of that, around 45% will get pregnant within six months of taking it.

Since Clomid stimulates your hormone levels, many symptoms are similar to those that you would get in early pregnancy such as mood swings, nausea, hot flashes and breast tenderness.

Many women also report cramping around ovulation time.  This is thought to be because the ovaries are hyperstimulated to produce an egg and can sometimes cause cramping for a day or two.

Another common side effect of Clomid is decreased cervical fluid (although some women also report the opposite and say they have more than usual).  You can help increase your cervical mucus by drinking more water, taking evening primrose oil and taking Robitussin cough mixture (which thins out mucus).

If you have a clear medical reason why you can't get pregnant such as blocked tubes then Clomid will not be able to help, but if your problem is ovulatory related then it's not only possible but nearly half of all women who previous struggled to conceive will go on to get pregnant using Clomid.
