About My Life

Hi, I am 55 years old and lord knows I've been around the block a few times. I'm no scholar, but life has taught me many things.

Let me know if you want to have me write about something that maybe you might want to write about but aren't for sure where to start. I may peak your interest and get you to begin writing on your own Hub Page. Don't be afraid. People everywhere want to know more, everyday. Knowledge is powerful. I enjoy learning something new constantly. Especially, as I get older, I think learning something new helps keep our mind sharp.

Again, I am not an expert, but I have had life experiences with family issues, divorce, mental health issues, religion and changing religions (I'm Catholic....wow, that's a whole subject just by itself).....loosing someone you love, loosing parents to cancer.

I am a daughter, a sister to seven siblings, a sister-in-law, and an aunt, a great-aunt and a grandmother called 'Mimi' to six beautiful grandchildren. Oh yeah, and I'm an ex-wife, but who wants to count that!!!

I am also a loyal friend to some fantastic people. I have worked a lot in the medical field and I have always enjoyed helping others. I've been a scrub nurse on a open heart surgery and a total hip replacement, as well as cut suture strings while a physician sewed up a laceration on someone's head.

I am very active in my church and it is a big part of my life and my sanity. I love going to garage sales and auctions, and finding new ways to save a penny. I've traveled by plane, train, automobile, and ship. I've been on cruises to Mexico and the Caribbean. I enjoy quilting and have made several quilts for family members. I also do mending jobs for family members.

I love my country and am proud to be an American. I was raised as an "Army brat" so I can relate to homes in that situation.

I've suffered from some major health problems, had eight surgeries including a gastric bypass, a total knee replacement and lumbar spinal fusions. No, I'm not the 6-Million Dollar Woman, but close! My health is very good now!

I've watched The Nut Cracker Ballet at the War Memorial Theater in San Francisco CA. I've been to a San Francisco Giants baseball game; an Oakland A's baseball game and a Sacramento Kings basketball game. I've eaten squid on Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco. I had a funnel cake on Pier 39 and seen million dollar mansions in Carmel and Monterey Bay CA. I've been to Disneyland in California. I've spent the night in St Louis at the Ritz-Carlton and shopped at Trader Joe's and the World Market.

I've been to many concerts some of which I saw Cher, Brooks and Dunn, Kenny Chesney, Willie Nelson, Elvis, and George Strait....I even shook his hand! I've sat in the front row to listen to the Sacramento Symphony play and it was breath-taking.

I've played the slot machines in Reno and Lake Tahoe. I've won a jackpot a few times! I've attended schools, colleges, trade schools, community colleges and a university.

I've swam in the ocean in California and floated down the river in Missouri. I've touched a Blue Whale on the beach near Seal Rock at San Francisco. I've had a massage on a private beach in Cozumel. I've danced with my doctor and played the snare drum in a community band standing beside a former therapist. I've seen a baby born, and a horse give birth to a foal. I love flowers and stars, and hearts, and popcorn.

My grandchildren are the love of my life. They make me smile, and laugh so hard I can cry.

I once picked up all I could put into a travel trailer, my two children, and moved 2000 miles to a new home, a new town, job and no friends.......but, thank goodness for family. I had a sister there who helped me get my life back together. Thanks Carol!

I can bake a great loaf of bread or bar-b-Que some tasty pork steaks. I love Brie with raspberry jam and Moscato wine. I've boiled a live Lobster and experienced what it's like to break one open and find the good parts to eat.

I've been in love......I've been hurt by being in love and I've lost love. I've ridden on a horse, a motorcycle, a bike, scooter, camel, elephant, go cart, a pony, a 4-wheeler and on my son's back! (he's very strong and big).

I have collected stamps, Minnie Mouses', coins, old thread spools, newspaper clippings and pictures of flowers, but my favorite collection is that of friends!

I've lived in an apartment, a mobile home, a manufactured home, a condo, a townhouse, in military housing, in town and in the country, and in a residential brick home.

I've eaten oysters raw, grilled and fried; sauteed octopus, home-made sushi, wild mushrooms and home-made ice cream. I love Chinese food, Mexican food and Italian food. I speak alittle Spanish and can count in 5 different languages.

I can whistle, jump rope and play a little on the piano. I am very computer literate!

I was a Girl Scout, a member of the Future Nurses of America at Lebanon High School in Lebanon, MO; a candy-stripe volunteer at Louise G. Wallace Hospital; a short-order cook as a teenager; I can teach First Aid and am a Red Cross First Aid Instructor; I'm a certified CPR instructor; I once had an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) license and was qualified to ride in an ambulance and administer aid. I was the Most Outstanding Senior Girl Athlete of my graduating class in 1972.

I have won a blue ribbon at the local County Fair for pickled beets and my stamp collection.

I've been on a Code Blue team in a hospital and helped bring someone back to life after their heart had stopped. I've pulled someone from a car after a bad accident and held them until help came.

I sat at the bedside of each of my parents as they took their last breath on this earth, and witnessed my heart truly breaking as I felt the pain of their loss and saw it in each of my siblings. I know my parents are both in Heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ and much better off, without pain, without disease, but none of that takes away the pain of loss. Have you lost someone? Want to share some insight with me?

Well, as you can see, my life has been full, as I am sure many of your can list a lot of things you too have witnessed or participated in throughout your years.

I hope and pray that all who read this get something out of it and that you have a wonderful day!
