Yes, Milk Can Cause Asthma Problems

The answer is unfortunately yes. Milk can cause asthma problems. Unfortunately, I know this from first hand knowledge. On days when I'm having breathing problems, a bowl of cereal with milk or a glass of white milk can make my problem worse.

The reason why milk causes asthma problem is not so clear. Doctors and researchers have two theories about the relationship between milk and asthma.

Milk causes excess mucus to form in the breathing tube, so an asthmatic that already has problems with extra mucus, milk can further aggravate the problem.

Many asthmatics have an allergy milk, therefore it's an asthma trigger. Milk is one of the most common food allergies, as many as fifty percent of school age children have a milk allergy.

Of course, it could also be a mix of both.

It's Not Just Milk That Causes Asthma Problems

Along with milk, cheeses, yogurts, butter and other foods in the dairy group can cause asthma problems. If you do have problems with milks, be careful at the butcher shop because they often slice meat and cheese on the same machine. When you go out for dinner, be careful because many restaurants put butter on steaks. It comes down to knowing what's on your food and what you put into your mouth. I know it's not fun, but it's better than having asthma problems.

The easiest solution is to no longer drink or eat the item that's causing your asthma problems. When I'm having breathing problems, I'll often switch to soy milk for a while. You can also treat the problem with allergy medicine.

Other Foods That Cause Asthma Problems

For asthmatics, thee problem can extend beyond the dairy aisle.

Peanuts can be one of the most dangerous foods when it comes to causing asthma problems. For a person with a nut allergy, even a small bite can cause a serious attack. This is another one that I've discovered from first hand experience. I've known that I've had a peanut allergy since I was a small child. I've done my best to avoid peanuts, however there's been times when I've accidentally had candy with peanuts. Within minutes, I'm having problems and need to use my inhaler.

Another food that can cause problems is foods with wheats. Wheat is another common food allergy and can cause asthma problems.

Some people are allergic to certain kinds of fish can cause asthma problems. Even eggs can cause problems too.

The best solution is to visit your doctor so that they can determine what your food allergies are so you can avoid those foods and future asthma problems.

Hello, I read an article recently that said a US study showed that there was no link between dairy and asthma. I know dairy has been targeted as asthma's nemesis for a few decades now but I'm just wondering if this new study may have something to it?
