Can President Barack Obama Get the Nation Back on Its Feet

President Barack Obama wants the generations of young people to realize that “we did not turn back, nor did we falter, and with eyes fixed on the horizon and God’s grace upon us, we carried forth that great gift of freedom and delivered it safely to future generations.” This statement was made by President Obama in the spirit of hope which he ran his presidential campaign upon and the grip of hope that Americans are clinging to today. The President sounds fairly confident that he can get this nation back on its feet even as two wars rages and the economy teeters unsteadily on an economic crisis that has plagued the nation since December of 2007.

How does President Barack Obama plan to get the nation back on its feet? For starters, President Obama signed his first bill into law on January 29, 2009 called the Lilly Ledbetter law. This all important former bill that had been on the books and floor of the House for years gives women the right to plead their case for equal pay for equal work and extended the six month time limit in which to file the claim. The signing of this bill into law means that women can request equal pay for equal work for years to come and can actually open cases that were closed prior to the signing of the bill into law. President Obama proved once more that Americans made the belief that “people who love this country can change it” into a reality of hope.

Immediately following President Obama’s inaugural speech, Dianne Sawyer, an ABC television news talk show personality, commented that he mentioned the word “I” only three times during the entire speech. President Obama is obviously going to depend quite a lot on the American people in the spirit of service to community and to country to do their part to help him during his administration and to get the nation back on its feet. These tiny movements of service all across the country will prove to be significant and gigantic steps to raising up the country and “remaking America.” One local restaurant in Virginia had its employees to work one day free to help the economic woes of the failing restaurant. These people had almost imulated the part of President Obama’s inaugural speech when he said one employee let another work in his place for one day so the unemployed worker would get a paycheck.

How does President Barack Obama plan to get the nation back on its feet? He plans on depending on all Americans working together from the urbanites to the surburbanites to do their best and to do their part to impart service to their community and to their country. Signing the Lilly Ledbetter bill was one small step to getting the nation back on its feet. The bigger steps are going to be taken by the American people who have to wake up with hope and the realization that their service, however small, to their country matters. Americans working together like the restaurant workers putting in a days work for free to save a failing restaurant is just one example of American’s resolve to help to get the nation back on its feet.

President Barack Obama plans to get rid of a slew of government programs that do not work and to streamline economically the ones that do work. The belief in change for the better with all Americans working together and not solely depending on the President of the United States can help to get the nation back on its feet. Hope makes it conceivable that the nation will get back on its feet once again.
