Get to the Interview then promote yourself

With the advent of the Internet, it is very important not to promote any adverse presence. Be very aware of the way you display yourself to anyone on the Internet. It may feel like a good idea to do something at the time, although if left up there, it could work in reverse, in relation to obtaining that prestigious position.

You need a good On-line Resume

If you are serious about applying for any position, you need a good resume. Once you have created a suitable one, you need to promote it to the type of employment agencies that advertise your special criteria. If you wish to apply for an executive position, do not submit an application to one catering for domestic work. If you have trouble compiling a resume, some sites can offer help.

Do Internet searches to find as many employment agencies as possible that keep resumes on-line? Register with them, and upload your resume. Now go through the available positions and send an appropriate application email, include your resume as an attachment. Ask the agencies to notify you when new vacancies become available. The Internet allows you to access information on jobs available in different countries, which means you can apply, and obtain the position before leaving home in some cases.

Here are a few of these agencies in various countries:

Australia http:// www.seek.com.au

USA www.usajobs.opm.gov

http://www.ibisworld.com

UK www.jobs1.co.uk/

Blogs: Use your blog to promote your expertise

Use your blog to promote the type of work you do or have done. Put yourself out there, although beware on what type of information you allow others to know about you.

The Internet not only gives you access to what positions are available. It allows you to access this information from the convenience of your home. This saves you money on fuel, bus fares, postage of large letters with enclosed resumes, and the added legwork. This is an improvement to the old days.

Yes having an Internet presence can and will help you land the special job you seek. A word of caution, beware of the sites you visit, some may not be all it appears. Make sure you update your virus protection at least once a week when using the Internet.
