Victim: Khyati Shrestha.
Crime Scene: Kathmandu, capital city of Nepal.
Murderer: Biren Pradhan, a former science teacher of Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) School, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Accomplish: Merina Shakya, a student at Adarsha Vidya Mandir (AVM) School, Kathmandu, Nepal.
Identification of suspect: Khyati's domestic help Ram.
Evidence Scenes: Multiple places throughout Nepal.
Khyati Shrestha, 19-year-old 12th grader of Jubilant College and Research Centre, Kathmandu, Nepal, receives a call from Merina Shakya, a 16 year old 10th grader, telling her that she has won a prize at about 8 am on June 5, 2009.
• She rushes to Putalisadak, Kathmandu as told and is received by Shakya at 1:00 pm.
• Khyati’s family calls her at 2:30 pm, but gets no response.
• Khyati’s family receives SMS from her cell phone in Hindi language, demanding Rs 1 million ransom that very day.
• Her family comes to know that she has been abducted.
• Her mother, Radha, pays ransom to Biren Pradhan in the India-Nepal border town of Kakarbhitta (approximately 610 kilometers from Kathmandu) on June 17, 2009. Pradhan tries to kidnap the domestic help, Ram, responsible for delivering the ransom, in fear of identification.
• Khyati is not released even after that. Later it was found that she was repeatedly raped and hacked to death within 24 hours of her abduction.
• Body parts are found on Mugling - Narayan Road (approximately 110 kilometers from Kathmandu) on June 13. Later they were ascertained to be that of Khyati.
• Police arrest Biren Pradhan, a native of Darjeeling, India, who was living in a rented house in Kushibu, and Shakya, his alleged accomplice on June 21, 2009.
• Other parts of Khyati’s body are recovered from Chhayasikot of Sainbu VDC in Lalitpur, approximately 20 kilometers from the heart of the capital Kathmandu on June 21, 2009.
• Her severed head is found from Raniban Forests, Balaju, approximately 15 kilometers from Kathmandu, on June 24, 2009.
A tragic end to a promising life, God help the poor soul rest in peace and give strength to the bereaved family.

sometimes the most 'respectable' are the least decent. I've seen that over and over again especially in american society. outward respectability < true kindness. I prefer kind people to 'esteemed' ones. in the old days in some other world, kindness was what was esteemed. what a far cry we are from there with our greed, our social status, and our tyrannical mobs of the weak.
In this part of the world, this is just one of the thousands of cases that occur per week. There are thugs, cheats, wicked criminals everywhere. The law is so bad and it is the result of illiteracy and poverty the respect for humanity so rare to find.
respect for humanity is hard to find anywhere anymore I think, but there are some few of us and we have to just keep being decent and praying. this isn't something we can fix. I suspect we shall have to rely on God for the important revolution in the human heart that is so needed.

This is a tragic true story happening in the unruly and dangerous streets of Kathmandu. It took the security enforcers 17 days to find the body of Khyati, not to their credit but by the investigation through the victim's family.
Sad but true, there is no law in this place. I seriouly doubt the jury on the murderer?
Yes it is really sad to have this kind of crime. There are also hidden crimes committed in prestigious office by cowardly action of higher level people making irresponsible decision to a helpless victim.

biren pradhan should be hanged to death publicly or should be tied with rope and kept in Ratnapark and the public will have to be asked to spit on his face and slap him till he dies, merina too should be held equally accountable, i felt disgusted when i read that she has acquired a very good mark on SLC result holding distinction, of what use and she should jailed thruout her life.

Biren must get death punishment. it must be, must be n must be. death punishment.no compromise .
Nothing done as of now to the culprit. Maybe it will just die out, there is a chance he'll go free, its South Asia and anything can happen.

This shithead should be tortured first and cut him into pieces as he did to innocent Khyati. Then let him die regretting that terrible crime that he should not have done. This would give challenge to all those mofo abductor out there. They should be hanged to death.

It shocked me to my nerves when I heard that the human right activists are in favor of Biren Pradhan.....why are we silent!!!!! He should be punished to death in a public place so that no one would even think of doing so...the person would think thousand times before he would commmit any crime...

when i heared that news i was so shocked.i think there is no law and order in nepal.our law is so weak that there could be born thousands of animal like biren.He is the living ghoast with no huminity.I wish his two legs and two hands should be cut and throw that bastered in tudikhel until his death.first of all there should be tight law in nepal to stop these unhuman behaviours.we all nepalese pray for the soul of dear khyati rest in peace forever we miss u .I pray for her bereaved family to be calm in this bad period and may her parents life would be heaven.I want to say her parents please be calm god bless u dad and mom.

this is very sad. how horrible and what a terrible waste. my thoughts and prayers go to the family and I hope justice is served in her murder.
