Candle sconces make for useful wall décor besides looking great when lit with candles. Most of them come in varying metals like wrought iron, silver or brass and fix to any spot in your home. To protect your wall from accidentally igniting, several candle sconces come with hurricane lamp type coverings that sit on the candle base or some other protective glass covering so that you can still view the candle. They fasten to the wall with screws or another kind of wall hanging tool. They are made for all types of candles: votive candles, tea lights, pillar candles or your basic tapered candles. It is wise to choose dripless candles or made of paraffin or beeswax so there is no chance of hot wax dripping on the floor.

Choosing Candle Sconces

Traditionally, the candle sconce has been made out of wrought iron and utilized hurricane glass, but most candle wall sconces protrude far enough from the wall so that there is little concern about a fire starting. Still should you want the protection offered by hurricane glass or any other candle covering it will be easy enough to find something if it doesn't come with the candle wall sconce you want to purchase. Styles include gothic or ornate, the Hemmingway style which has a cage in which the candle sits, the traditional wrought iron as I've mentioned, art deco, modern, and the list goes on. Pretty much if you want it, you can find it.

Wall Sconce Candle Holder

The wall sconce candle holder has become a popular item these days since you can find them in so many forms. Just search Amazon and you will find so many. Most of them are made of metal and are sold in pairs but you can find just as many done in wood. People will prefer metal to wood for obvious reasons, but when you have candles that are made to be dripless and just seem to evaporate as the candle melts then wood is a very viable option. These, of course, would be strictly for indoor use. Wrought iron candle wall sconces and other metal sconces are versatile in that they can be used indoors or outdoors. The metal is usually done in a matte black for simplicity's sake.

Wrought Iron Candle Sconces

If you want an antique or Old World look, then wrought iron candle sconces are the way to go. They can really add texture and depth to things like console tables when hung over them. They can be sleek in shape and long or they can be flatter and broader. Something that can hold Pillar candles make the best wall sconces for candles. These look great on the patio, especially with a touch of jade inset in the wrought iron. Despite the size of the candle you use, find a bracket that can support a pillar candle. That way you won't have to worry about it falling should your intentions change later.

Brass Candle Sconces

Brass candle sconces would also make a nice touch outdoors. The color of the brass adds a look of antiquity and sophistication that other metals just miss. That's not to say you can't get the same elegance from something like a silver candle sconce, but brass is definitely an outdoorsy metal. It even offers a sense of romance to an outdoor setting. Handmade sand molds make the best brass items so look to see if the one you want was made this way. A better quality is spun brass. That's the process through which it is made. The artisan then polishes down and gives it that high brass color and shine. They can be expensive and some will cost up to $150 per sconce, but that is a decision you will have to make for the elegance that they bring with them. But even silver candle sconces can be more expensive and not have the same ambience of brass.

Whatever kind of sconces you choose to install in your home make sure you purchase brackets that will support a fairly heavy candle and always try to attach them to a wood beam in your wall for added support. If you are a DIY type here is a video that shows you how to make candle sconces.
